I don't think smoking tells us what sort of person they are.

On my Grandads they both smoked

One My Mums Dad would give his last penny to help a stranger.

The other My Dad's Dad (obviously) would mug a homeless person if he thought he/she had a penny.

I also bet you could count on one hand the number of meals she has prepared for her family in her adult life[/QUOTE]

How dare she avoid domesticity, the most reliable measure of a woman's worth.

I wouldn't care about a Royals death any more or less than I would anybody else on the street.

I care about most celebrities more as they have given me something I enjoy.

I am a compassionate human being. I feel sadness when any person in the public eye dies, whether I was a fan or not. Simply because these people have contributed to my life in one way or another and with people like The Queen, has maintained familiarity in my lifetime. Therefore when someone important dies, regardless as to how I felt about them, a little bit of my lifetime dies with them. I also accept that The Queen is hugely popular and people will genuinely be upset at her passing. I respect the fact that this will be so and as such will be courteous and respectful to anyone I come across during the aftermath of her death because emotions will be high and more importantly, the world doesn't revolve around me.

I'm upset Carrie Fisher died and part of that is I won't get to see her in SW9 but the main part is someone I grew up watching and enjoying their work is gone.

The Queen has never done a thing I have enjoyed I won't be happy when she goes but it will upset me as much as seeing a random funeral pass with someone I don't know I'm sorry someone has died but that's all.

Do you get the urge to buy a sofa every time someone calls you?

But you don't know them. You've never met any of these celebrities, talked at length with them. Befriended them.

I know exactly what you mean. When a talented human being dies, we lose the talent and it's sad that their work has come to an end. Bet Windsor hasn't contributed anything of value and in so many ways has been a symbol of much of what's wrong with society, so yes, of course it's sad when someone passes away but, like you, beyond the normal feelings of compassion one would have for any other human being, her death will have no particular impact on me. Well, apart from making a conscious effort to avoid the UK news channels for a while!

I've got a feeling that things aren't great.
It's no proof of anything but we've heard this kind of thing before when old world leaders retire from the limelight due to poor health and we don't hear about them for ages. Then we find out afterwards that they died.
Of course this is just circumstantial, but it doesn't seem to be very reassuring.

I find it amusing that non Royal fans always believe that the Queen has not contributed anything of value to society. Like her or not, she works harder than any politician, and it is because of her that Britain is held in the esteem that it is. That is her job. To be the global face of our country. She does that job brilliantly.

Yep, I am there with you. But I fear it won't be just the UK News channels that go into emotional meltdown, most other British channels will go bananas too. Will probably just watch French TV for a month.

Sadly, I too think that things are worse than they are letting on.

I am not a celeb person and never get the grief for people you don't know
but a lovely lady who adored Gorge Michel explained Whenever something bad happened to me, Gorge sang to me, his words said he knows what I am feeling. when I am sad, he knows the words I cannot express

I understood it a little more then. You feel you know them and it feels like they know and understand you.

Hmmm, yes, you could be right. The Buck Palace press blurbs have had a whiff of Kremlinology about them. Back in the early and mid-80s, Soviet leaders were dropping like flies, Brezhnev, Chernenko and Andropov were all said to be cold as ice for several days before the Kremlin announced their deaths.

But are the Royals that dumb ?
