Its the automatic 'expected' outpouring of grief and chaos that is making them dumb.

They expect the whole country will have to come to a complete standstill and the stock markets will crash and people will stand openly crying in the middle of the street, people wont be able to go to work due to sadness, schools will have to close because kids will need to be with their parents at this very, very difficult time, public transport will have to be cancelled for a week...

All total bullshit, but I bet there is some think thank somewhere predicting all the above will happen.

I will still have to go to work as I'm sure many of you will too.

And I find it funny that what she does is called work. And that so much of her piss poor behaviour is sanitized and almost made into a virtue.

Same here, though I suspect that the grief circus won't be in town for as quite as long as it was for Di Wales.

I am not sure your faith in the British "stiff upper lip" is as well placed as maybe it once was. As an Irish person, who lives in Britain on and off, I have been, as another poster said, astonished at how emotional British people get nowadays.

All seemed to fly apart after Lady Landmine and the Egyptian chap had that car crash, the whole country went off its head.

Being called Diana Princess of Wales has nothing to do with the fact that she was not born royal. At the time of her divorce the title Her Royal Highness was removed and it was then announced that she would subsequently be known as Diana, Princess of Wales. The same criteria is why Sarah Ferguson is known as Sarah Duchess of York.

If Katherine's marriage to William remains secure she will be, at least, Princess Katherine.

I'm fairly sure they will not be permitted to split up (at least publicly) even if they are miserable in years to come. The "Firm" would not allow another "annus horribilis".

That was a huge shock though, because she was so young. The death of someone over 90 will hardly be unexpected and I doubt there will be the same outpouring of grief.

I agree I don't think most people will care nearly as much as the Royals and media are expecting them to even the Princess Diana thing was 20 years ago now a lot has changed in that time.

She can hardly say she's on her last legs or has curled her toes up.

As Christmas is seen as the biggest holiday of the year and is generally a seen as a fun time they may not want to bring the country down plus every year after it would be remembered The Queen died at Christmas.

So if she died for example Dec 23 would they hold off and say she died Jan 3rd or something?”

"How the Queen ruined Christmas"

in all good bookstores.

This "esteem" that Britain is held in I'm afraid is just a fairy tale place believed in by Farage & co
If this is supposed to be part of the Queen's CV she should give up

Well it wouldn't ruin my Christmas or I don't think many others but I can see them thinking it would.

Plus over Christmas could they really do all that 12 Days of Morning and no TV stuff?

Precisely why they never announced it.

I'm no royalist but I think the Queen has performed her role admirably. People joke about her job being easy, but I daresay with hundreds of public engagements a year, plus hundreds of other meetings, combined with the sheer weight of the responsibility of being head of state, she is more active than most people who sit at a desk all day. She has continued to do this well past the normal retirement age. My mother is in her 60s and already finds traveling tiring.

Your mum unlike the queen has had jobs that grind you down and unlike the queen your mum probably does not travel in luxury. For the queen travel would be like us on the sofa with our feet up.

It's a miserable one.

Do the Republicans here think that other heads of state do nothing as well?

I'm a republican and I don't think the Queen does nothing. Well, it's obvious that she doesn't.
