Thank you. I was beginning to feel like I was in the twilight zone.
I don't hate the queen as a person, I do hate the whole system though. those at the top could do so much to help others and stop this war on the vulnerable.. I do get miffed at people who protect the system and therefore agree with what is going on. They absolve them of any responsibility they protect her and her family. |

I personally don't find it amazing that a woman lives to 90 who has had the best medical care available, including regular screening for life threatening diseases in the early stages, has lived on a good diet cooked for her by personal chefs and who had had the free time to exercise regularly and pursue interests they find rewarding. I think it is far more remarkable that a working class woman who has raised several children whilst holding down a drudgery job on a limited family income with no money for holidays or extras lives to be 90. For the same reasons I could never understand the fanfare when the queen mum hit 100.
All lovely grass fed meat no GM crops for her. no cheap processed food. no stress no worries about how to feed her children and grandchildren We as a nation are getting sicker imo its a lot to do with the food and stress of life today |

You haven't yet told us what it is you think she ought to be doing about it though.
I shall make the text larger for you . SHE COULD SPEAK UP FOR HER PEOPLE, SHE COULD SET A EXAMPLE BY GIVING AND DOING MORE PUBLICLY, SHE COULD LET IT BE KNOWN THAT SHE DISAGREES WITH WHAT THE GOVERNMENT ARE DOING but she doesn't and her loyal subjects surround and protect her at all times. |

As an effectively neutral head of state, we don't need or particularly want her to openly engage politically, and it is to her credit that she has resisted doing so for so long.

And who would have retired 30 years ago, unlike the Queen.
Who still have to cook and clean themselves. Who when ill are lucky to see a Doctor and if they do get a appointment have to go to them. Who In many cases have to choose if to eat or be warm that day as they can't afford both. |

Actually heading up the system of government is, constitutionally, what she does.
Hers is a largely ceremonial role and she plays no part IN government. She is above politics and cannot change or influence the actions of the government. "The monarch and his or her immediate family undertake various official, ceremonial, diplomatic and representational duties. As the monarchy is constitutional, the monarch is limited to non-partisan functions such as bestowing honours and appointing the Prime Minister. The monarch is, by tradition, commander-in-chief of the British Armed Forces. Though the ultimate formal executive authority over the government of the United Kingdom is still by and through the monarch's royal prerogative, these powers may only be used according to laws enacted in Parliament and, in practice, within the constraints of convention and precedent." |

Why are you always so confused ?
Its states clearly that she isn't supposed to give her opinion and yet she does so do her family. Sometimes she outright says something and other times its leaked (cough) info She has a meeting with the Prime MInister every week but the nature and content of the discussion which takes place is not divulged. She can and does offer opinions and asks questions but nobody other than the PM hears them. She is as entitled to hold opinions as you or me... the difference is that she cannot be seen to be either publicly criticising or endorsing the policies or individuals of the government, which is why she does not do so. "Leaks" are hardly a reliable source of anything as they invariably come from un-named and unverifiable sources. On that basis, anyone could make any sort of spurious statement and claim that it originated with the Queen. Why would any rational person believe that? |

Banging on about the Queen not doing anything is an exercise in futility, as she cannot influence government policy. This is basic, basic stuff and you really need to read up on the constitutional arrangements of the UK and the role of the Monarchy within it, if you hope your opinions to be taken seriously. |

You are in the twilight zone - because if you want the "war on the vulnerable" to stop, that has to come from government policy and not from the Queen.

One mightn't think there is anything wrong with that of course. |

Something discussed in private and subsequently leaked is, by definition, not offering an opinion "publicly".

That was a pretty tacky disclosure made by a tacky berk of a prime minister,

Rubbish. The referendum was democracy in action. The people spoke.

Serves him right for being a complete clown and being so utterly clueless and indiscreet. Wasn't fit to clean out the cat's litter tray, let alone run the country. Those are my thoughts - not necessarily those of the Queen, by the way!

It's actually very interesting reading how the Queen got on personally with the various Prime Ministers who have served on her watch - link

A lot of people are losing sight of the fact that the Queen's position is a unique one and are trying to use inappropriate criteria on which to judge what she does.
Since it became apparent that she would be in direct line to the succession, her life has never truly been her own. She became Queen at a very young age and has served the country for a very long time. She has never been able to enjoy the sort of private family life that most of us take for granted. She has never been able to pursue a salaried career or to engage in tertiary education. She has had long periods of separation from her children and has had to put her duties ahead of her family, her husband and herself time and time again. She has undertaken vast numbers of public engagements, gone on overseas tours necessitating long journeys and probably a lot of very tedious ceremonies and speeches. She is never free of paperwork, even when on holiday or when supposedly "off duty". She is not permitted to express her opinions in public or to show preference or favour in her views. She is not just like the rest of us who are private citizens.... and she cannot retire. She is the Queen 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 52 weeks of the year and has been for almost 63 years and will still be the Queen when she is ready to draw her final breath. Frankly, whilst I am not what I would describe as a monarchist, I have a great deal of regard for all she has done. I would not have ever wanted the role which was thrust upon her, as I cannot think of much worse than the endless microscopic scrutiny which she has been subjected to over the years. There is no amount of money, possessions, property or other possessions which could compensate me for the lack of a genuinely private existence. I can honestly say that i do not begrudge her anything, because I know I could never have done what she has for the past 63 years. |

I don't envy her either. Abolishing the monarchy would mean we never had to inflict that life on anyone ever again.

Princess Alice passed away in October 2004 aged almost 103, and is the oldest lived member of the Royal Family, she even managed to outdo the Queen Mother.
That may have been when I became a Republican: 600 girls were forced to waste 2 hours learning to curtsey and how to a address a royal. Even hockey would have been preferable. |

Perhaps they will have the good sense to start retiring at a reasonable age. Even Popes retire. |
