Plenty of doctors etc readily available in London, not so many if any around Sandringham. They parked George V1 there to die
Whilst he was hardly in the most robust of health, his death at that specific time was unexpected.

Incredibly rich old couple with the best healthcare money can buy get colds.

I'm not going to be dressing up in black and holding a vigil outside Buckingham Palace just yet..

I'm going to go for an American President, possibly on Boxing Day, maybe Carter or the first Bush, both are 92. Why? Because two former US Presidents have passed on Boxing Day in recent years - Harry S Truman in 1972 and then Gerald Ford in 2006. I notice that quite a few of our own Monarch's seem to depart in the early part of the year, January and February.
Being born in 1972 and now feeling rather old, it's a relief that you class that as being "in recent years"!

A helicoptor has just landed in the grounds of Buckingham Palace to take the Queen and Prince Philip to Sandringham, it's thought.

BBC News.

TBF a common cold can lead to deathly complications in the very elderly, pneumonia and what have you.

Doh , a cold at our ages can be and feel like a death sentence , hence the large number of elderly people being hospitalised at this time of year

and in a person of any age, it can still make you feel pretty lousy, dependent on the severity of the cold. Even just a runny nose can cause you to feel uncomfortably bunged up.

You have to wonder at the people here whose hatred of the Monarchy is so great not only do they wish death on a 90 year woman, but would celebrate such an event.

Yeah it's pretty sad and disturbing . I know some people who I would consider to be pretty liberal, but then they come out with stuff like they wish the queen would have a stroke and die. There's being anti monarchy and then there is being sick and twisted.

Hear hear. Very well said.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh have just arrived at Sandringham, according to the news.

So they flew up via Helicopter and not the train.

That really does make it look like they got wind of a possible attack yesterday so wouldn't let her travel.

It tends to be the same people who like to sneer about some of the Queen's ancestors being foreign but some how think they are not being racist if you call them out for it.

Its going to be a truly sad day when we finally lose her. I can see a whole week of national mourning being declared and on the day of the funeral all shops etc being asked to close out of respect. It will be on a bigger scale than Diane's passing for sure. We have never known the country without the Queen leading it.

Yes they had to hold back as there was a security threat and decided to clear the air today for the flight instead of going by train 😉.. Very carefully planned

Yes it will be sad but she's not gone yet. Just had to leave in a different way today.

I can remember the country without the Queen leading it -- King George VI led it until 1952 when I was 8 years old, I remember our teacher announced his death when I was in junior class at school.
