Can anyone recommend a credit card for first timers that has a high credit limit? cheers

I would highly recommend having a browse here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/ - the website is fantastic for all things money saving, and they know their stuff. Martin Lewis is amazing. Definitely worth a look.

You won't get too high a limit first time. You'll be lucky if you get £1000 but it goes up when you've had it a few months and made some payments. What sort of credit limit were you hoping for? They're not daft, won't give you thousands to spend then do a runner.

Very suspicious, I suspect his/her Bank would not give a high credit card limit, and they would know any risks!

Mine's £1,500 with Barclays. They keep asking me if they can raise it to £2,500, but I refuse.

My first credit card was a Barclaycard, and it came with a £2,500 limit immediately.
Was very surprised as I had practically no credit history to that point.

I knew someone with a horrible credit rating and they got about £250.

They supplied my first ever credit card back in 1985 and did exactly the same, despite me having no real credit history. They then gradually increased the limit over the next 10 years, despite me not owing more than £1000 at any one time. Today, I have a card from them and the limit is frankly scary.

Conversely, I got my first mortgage in '87 and had to have an interview with the bank manager as well as providing every scrap of income/outgoing finance documentation.

Best way to build credit on a credit card is by using it and paying it off in full each month.

Use it to buy a tank full of petrol, or a weekly/monthly shop then pay it off when the bill arrives. Carry on doing this for a while and your credit limit will improve, and you'll be able to get a better interest rate on a higher limit.

Just asking tells me you're doomed.

I'm still trying to figure out what disorder he has.

Barclaycard gave me £2000 or £3000, despite the fact I had payday loans and the like going on at the same time!

Luckily over the years I cured my financial problems, pretty much still let my parents control most of my financials at the moment as I'm trying to save for a house

I've still got the card but only because I'll use it with bigger purchases for a bit of extra protection, paying it off virtually straight away!
