But in soaps it's fair to say a lot of characters are written as being promiscuous everyone who is in a relationship will switch from one partner to another quite often and more often than not have an affair so it's hard for viewers not to notice and then come on here to discuss what is going on, do you want to restrict those discussions to only talking about male characters and their sexual exploits?

It's easier to recycle affair plots and swap characters around than actually develop a couple the audience will enjoy.

In about a year Aidan and Maria will no doubt be separated.

Ha, I'm back so you're going to be pestered by revived Maria threads for a couple of days!!

I've a few points to make here!!
Firstly yes Maria has always had an appetite for male company, ever since she discovered her sexual allure way back when Maxine transformed her from a dowdy little kennel maid to one of the prettiest females ever to walk the cobbles of Weatherfield, and, particularly in those days wasn't always that fussy whether they were single or already attatched!!
To be fair to her since then though, or shall we say since meeting Liam in 2007 she has , at least until recently tried her damndest to settle down with four different guys all of which has ended in devastation for her!! Liam was murdered, Tony turned out to have been hiding the fact he murdered Liam, Chris dumped her to go back to his ex wife & Marcus led her up the garden path then cheated on her!! Any one of those four relationships she would have fought hard to keep otherwise!!
The 'one that got away' was possibly Jason but (wrongly of her I admit) he was only ever really an effort to bury her feelings for Marcus!!
Luke was never in any way suited to her imo & that was never destined to last!!

The present s/l with Aidan & Adam does show her up to being in a currently very sad & low state in her life with very little self respect atm & that is a real shame for the character!!
My hope is that she can come out of prison a stronger character & if she & Aidan do get together it is on her own terms & not just because she desperately needs someone to hold her up through yet another tragedy, self inflicted or otherwise!!

As for those who can't understand why men would be interested in her, apart from the obvious that even at her lowest ebb she's still flippin gorgeous, there will always be an attraction to men in a woman so emotionally vulnerable as Maria, whether because they want to help & protect her, as i would, or simply because they see her as an easy sh*g like Adam!!
For the record I would dump Eva roughly five minutes into any relationship she's vapid, clingy & would very soon become unbearable, Maria when she's not at rock bottom is a lovely person who's only need is someone who understands her, loves her & is prepared to be a father figure to her son!!

What a great post! Couldn't have said it better myself. I hope she comes out of prison tougher and in a better place emotionally.

Yay! Great to see you back NDD.

There have been a few threads where you were needed to defend Maria's honour - a particularly nasty one about how "easy" she is springs to mind.

I've missed a lot over the festive period, I take it Maria is banged up now? Do we know how often she will feature in the next few months? I would imagine various residents will visit her, meaning she won't be completely off our screens?

I am.glad there has been a resolution to this Pablo nonsense, maybe KO will sort out the other criminal elements on the street?

I so agree on this one BG!!
The Pablo sham marriage thing was just a horrendous idea but Kate Oates has taken what seemed like one of those s/l's that would reside in the 'let's forget they ever happened' box & made a proper s/l out of it which has not only showcased Samia's talent for emotional acting but given serious acting to little Charlie Wrenshall as Liam too & also showed that rare side of Kirk that only comes out when his sister's in trouble & which I will always love him for as a character!!
I honestly don't care what other people think here, I have loved the run up to Christmas on Corrie & this s/l is one of the main reasons why!!

No. It's something I usually see online and at this point, I can roll my eyes at it. Sometimes, it's even funny. The leaps some people can make in order to insult a woman can be hilarious.

Of course not. When have I said anything like that? The discussions are always different though. The women are clearly judged much harshly. I've seen female characters called names before even having sex with anyone, just because they seem a certain "type". It's pathetic.

Blame the scriptwriters it's they who ultimately decide how they want a character portrayed.

That's true, they put visions in our minds and that's their job. But they don't put words in our mouths, that's our job.

That's also true and there are plenty of words to describe the way a character is behaving in any given situation and some are deemed more offensive to some people than others.

How does that force people to make sexist comments about those characters? We have our own minds and cannot blame scriptwriters for our own sexism.

If only there was a way to supress free thought and free speech that would be the answer.

That's a fact. We have the right to offend people. Its our right and should never be given up. But offence should be dished out to those who deserve it. To do it just to upset someone or as a tool to make a difference of opinon become personal is wrong but it should'nt infringe on your right to say it.

If only any of my posts indicated that I don't believe in free speech.

Everyone has the right to free speech, but absolutely no one has the right to say what they want and face no consequences.

You have the right to be sexist and I have the right to say something about your sexism.

I have the right to say something racist. Would you be so eager to blame my racism on the scriptwriters and bring up free speech then, or would you say something about my racism?

If a remark didn't offend me then I wouldn't be offended and I certainly wouldn't be getting offended on anyone elses behalf, there is very little that anyone could say to me that would offend me so feel free to say anything you please.

So racism doesn't offend you?

No wonder you're fine with sexism.

Yes you did misunderstand, what I actually said was if something wasn't directly aimed at me it wouldn't offended me and that I don't get offended on other peoples behalf and that there is very little that offends me anyway, do I need to type slower maybe?(by the way the last bit is a joke nothing personal meant by it)

No, you just need to make yourself clearer, because it still basically sounds like you don't get offended by racism, as long as it isn't aimed at you personally. There isn't much difference tbh.

Anyway let's stick to discussing the soaps and characters rather than each other.

You can't mean women enjoying sex, including just for the sake of it and with whoever they choose?
Some male's egos can't cope with the idea while they slap each other on the back for doing the same. Is it because there's still life left in the archaic patriarchal ownership idea?

Yeah some even think they are still supposed to hold open doors for women, how awful is that.
