Any football fans here listen to 'The Sports Bar' on TalkSport?
I know this topic could go in the Radio section, but I think it fits here just as well.
I'm interested to know if any fellow football fans enjoy listening to Andy Goldstein and Jason Cundy on TalkSport with their 'Sports Bar' show on weekday evenings? I listen to the whole show most nights its on and I would imagine that a lot of people won't like some of the controversial opinions conveyed in particular by Jason Cundy. I used to watch him much more 'well behaved' on You're on Sky Sports back in the days, and would never have realised back then that he is actually such a wind-up guy when he wants to be (which is most nights!). Interested to hear your thoughts on any aspect of this programme and whether or not you like it. Cheers and Happy Christmas everyone.

Not listened to them but it doesnt surprise me of one of them is now more controversial. Talksport are generally the tabloid radio and controversial opinions generate calls. Same reason Daily Mail put a load of crap on their website as it generates clicks.

Sorry I find it excruciating radio. Goldstein must be the most unfunny presented out there. It's one of those strange programmes that is much better when the main host is absent.

I only really listen to The Two Mikes on Talksport. I do every now and again listen to Alan Brazil on the wireless at work but he gets on my nerves pretty quick.
The Two Mikes however are the best thing on radio |

The only Talksport show I listen to is Press Pass on Sunday evening but Ray Stubbs is very boring and it's a bit of a struggle especially now they've gone to 3 hours from 2, and even more especially when Paddy Barclay is on
I sometimes catch the start of the Danny Kelly show about European football that comes on after the Press Pass .........Danny is a much better broadcaster and the show seems pretty good but I'm just not that interested in European football and there's usually stuff on TV by 9pm |

Can't stand Goldstein. He's a wet behind the ears mummy's boy in his mid 40s trying desperately to sound like a 'lad'. Ridiculously cringeworthy.

They seem to enjoy winding up and taking the mick out of callers who might well be disabled or not able to speak well for whatever reason on live radio.
I dare say if they were BBC presenters for example they wouldn't get away with it. But then they would have to be much more neutral and well behaved anyway.. Like most of Talk sport its just often Arsenal bashing or whoever loses the big game that evening.. Cundy is your typical ex footballer who sees no wrong in what the current mob do whilst Goldstein adds very little. The likes of Danny Kelly and Ian Danter are true presenters which probably explains why they are hardly on although the former now has his own European show. |

And just not very confident speaking in public having waited a long time.
We've all been there I am sure. Even more so when they change the subject or try to get somebody to repeat something. |

I hated the show more a few years ago but mellowed a little bit when things got a little less juvenile. I can at least tolerate it a bit now - depending on the "debate". It adheres to the station's good cop, bad cop and/or faux/forced polarized opinions recipe to basically stir up the more emotional fans to call/text the show.
I'll listen because it's football-based not for any other reason. Certainly some bias given who the presenters support which doesn't help. The presenter I deplore the most is Brazil. The station actually openly celebrate his opulent lifestyle, gambling, drinking and absenteeism. The man's robbing a living as he's not even a decent broadcaster as illustrated by his many notable gaffs. Sadly, choice is limited for football-based radio if you want to avoid depressing news or bitchy politics so it's an oasis, albeit one tainted by camel droppings... As for the Press Pass. The opinions of the "experts" change week by week as they try and sound vaguely clued-up by and on the ball. Not a fan of journalists at thr best of times but less so of those that change their minds so frequently it makes their opinion worthless. The two Mikes can be entertaining but Parry's orchestrated buffoonery gets a bit much eventually. I'm hard to please! |

I don't know if it still happens but recently every night they did a phone-in question and just before 1.00am they would always have a caller called Keith on. Now assuming he was genuine he was obviously an alcoholic and drunk each time. They always used to tease him and ask him exactly what he had to drink that night.
I found that very uncomfortable listening. |

You are quite right - because they are on so often views change week by week depending on the results that weekend! Its an issue I have with phone-ins and the like generally TBH.. As somebody said Arsenal will win the next 5 games and Wenger is great again - Man U lose a couple and Jose won't be so special etc. |

I can't stand Alan Brazil either. Continually name dropping and boasting about his dining and drinking exploits. He was actually a decent footballer and would have had the respect of fans. But there's something a bit cringeworthy about a guy nearing 60 years old who appears as desperate to impress as a teenager.
For instance on Tuesday morning I think he was on with Ray Parlour and the subject of Mark Warburton and him as a choice as the England U21 manager was being discussed. Well Al was flabbergasted at this and immediately bought up his wages at Rangers. I think a figure of 500k a year was suggested and Al asked Ray if he would get more being the U21 manager. Ray said he didn't know. But Al carried on with the wage questions. I think he asked Ray a further two times and Ray still didn't know. A guest came on later to and Al started to quiz him on the wages. The guest didn't know either. On the same show he much of read out the fixture list of the top 4 (Including Man Utd for some reason but not Spurs) about 5 times during 90 minutes. By this time The Two Mikes podcast was out so I happily went over to that. But the main annoyance I have with Al is he never shuts up when someone else is talking. Its so rude the way he interrupts. |

Jim White in the mornings, isn't a bad show.
When I heard he was going to take over from Colin Murray, I thought Jim was going to be OTT and manic but he isn't. |

If Goldstein is who I am thinking of, then it seems a bit like Student radio to me, very amatuerish and shouting over each other and lowest common denominator stuff.
I listened during the World Cup once or twice and the guy was like a lot of people, particularly a few on here, claiming "he told us all that Hodgson would fail". But conveniently ignoring that the reasons that he failed were actually the complete opposite ones to criticisms that he had of him. He came across as a bit of a prat. Although, if he is the same bloke that also presents snooker on Eurosport occasionally, he is fine there. Which suggests that like a lot of their presenters, they ard really just actors, playing to a role. |

I listen now and again, and am a fan of Cundy because he does say it straight with none of the BS to be media-friendly (though, he clearly knows the game).
I don't like how its obvious (at least to me) that the presenters regularly role-play (one will be 'the good guy' and the other 'the bad guy'), because you can hear it in their voices & opinions that their stance isn't with conviction. |

Yeah, it's a tactic Drive use all the time. Obviously to provoke a reaction and get calls. Same with the " Daily Arsenal" stuff. As you says it comes across so false though. I know Goldstein's a big Utd fan but his bias in that direction is a bit too much as well.
Thinking about it how on earth does Gough get a gig on drive. |

Goldstein is really taking the mick out of Chelsea losing last night and making a big deal about Jason not being there to talk about it.
