![]() ![]() ![]() On a separate topic, I see that Broad has signed a new deal with his county, Nottinghamshire, so I presume he also has a central contact with England, so why does he need a country contact, when he will hardly feature for them? What exactly is he getting paid for at County level? To make sporadic appearances, or is it more the commercial side of things, so that they can use his image etc? |

Wonder if more counties will follow this route
Daniel Vettori the former New Zealand spinner, has joined Middlesex on a three-year contract to serve as the club's head coach for the T20 Blast. Vettori, 37, is currently head coach of Brisbane Heat in Australia's Big Bash, and occupies the same position with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. He will be in charge of Middlesex T20 playing strategy and will work alongside Richard Scott, the club head coach, and Richard Johnson and David Houghton, the club's two assistant coaches, to prepare the side for the Blast campaign. http://www.espncricinfo.com/county-c...y/1073839.html |

Benson and Hedges Cup - Brief guide to Cup Final programmes
A few months back, someone posted a separate thread about the Benson and Hedges Cup.
A post on the competition and its final programmes was always on my list to write. Here it is. For those interested, I give a potted history of the competition, as well as a review of the programmes. After that summary, I go through each year providing a summary of the format for the year, the scores in the final (with key player performances and Gold Award winner) and the key features of the programme with a focus on the cover designs which merged together images of cricket with those of the sponsor and their flagship brand at the time, Gold cigarettes. I comment that albeit in hindsight, cigarette company sponsorships were on borrowed time as the health impacts of smoking became more common knowledge and government restrictions tightened up how companies like B & H could market their products to customers whether directly through general market advertising or indirectly through such sponsorships as with the B&H Cup. The post does lay out a timeline of domestic cricket between the early 1970's and the early 2000's with the Gold Award winners in the finals reminding us of many top players on the circuit at the time both the Test players and the ones who didn't make it to international status but who were much loved at their county regardless; http://www.goalsandwickets.co.uk/cri...al-programmes/ |

I just assumed they had with all their success in the one day game One of my favourite memories is John Abrahams getting the Gold Award in 1984 for winning the toss ......

On the subject of JA, did you spot Derek Randall winning the gold award in a group match for his fielding even though he didn't take a catch nor run anyone out!!! Wonder if he could ne heard geeing himself up with his saying, 'Cum on rags'

Surrey were playing Notts at the time and both teams came down to support it. He ate 5 or 6 large French bread filled rolls in about 15 minutes ! A friend of mine is a Notts fan and when we meet up, we often disagree as to who was the best fielder - Randle or Clive Lloyd (before his kidney/back problems) Always Hubert for me

Yorkshire announced their overseas signing this morning and I am chuffed with it - Peter Handscomb
I wish we would snap up Phil Mustard now he has been released by Durham. Think he could be a good back up for Andy Hodd as we probably won't have Jonny Bairstow much |

Yes I did. I wonder if you could bet on man of the match then...

Then came Hubert, Derek Randall and in the 80's, Paul Parker and Graeme Barlow who was a superb mover but ended up with serious hip problems and a bit of a cripple - not sure if he had hip replacements). |
