Sadly it's not their Ireland anymore - the bankers, the EU and Apple own the country now!

What a load of bollocks - Ireland is a democracy, whoever gets most votes in a GE has control of the Dáil.. if Ireland elected an anti-EU party then there could be a referendum in the morning.

"Not their country anymore" that type of crap gets on my nerves.. what are we to do? Go back to being run by the Catholic Church?? Or better again being pawns to a British empire which starve, rape, murder our men, women and children!

Ireland is Ireland - a modern successful democracy ... give me that any day over the backward inward looking supressed Ireland scared for generations under London rule.

Some bad news for you ....

rish people are more optimistic about the European Union’s future than citizens from other member states, according to new figures.
The Eurobarometer survey, which interviewed just over 1,000 Irish citizens in early November, shows that 77 per cent of locals have confidence in the EU, compared to an average of just 50 per cent.

Its amazing how the EU managed to buy the irish people inbetween the two lisbon treaty referendums. Never seen such a swing - amazing what spending loads of money in Ireland has done.

Isn't it? Shame the British never thought of it, instead of leaving a million people to starve to death in a country that was producing a surplus of food.

The vast majority of British people at the time had no say in that. It was before universal suffrage.

Fair point, but mine was also a fair comeback to a snide comment about the EU spending money in Ireland.

You and I don't agree about everything, but we're as one here. It's grotesque that bankers, having been bailed out by the tax payer, at mind boggling cost, are now throwing people onto the streets. And not confined to Ireland.

You fought a war for independence from the British Empire, but now you're ruled by a big business elite, as is the case in the UK, Europe and the US. We can vote whoever we like into government, but once elected the politicians only have ears for vested interest at the helm of big business. Knowing that by pleasing them they'll be invited to board the corporate gravy train, our rulers betray us.
Our democracy's are an illusion.
