He's proposing this on behalf of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (as can be seen from the press release above)......it has nothing to do with official EU policy, more of a campaigning stance from that political grouping within the parliament.

Another jumped up liberal Democrat who can't seem to cope with the democratically expressed will of the people - this time the Polish people at their most recent general election..

ALDE are even cheaper than the supermarket chain they appear to be named after.

I'm guessing this is to do with the Constitutional Court crisis in Poland? Not something I'd heard about before, but interesting stuff. I think this is the key issue based on the press release: "This crisis has only got worse over the last months. Now, the Constitutional Court is under the political control of the ruling party, constitutionality of laws cannot be checked and ensured any more".

The government isn't recognising various decisions made by the Constitutional Court and is trying to limit its power, from what I can gather from a very brief read. Seems very reasonable that Guy Verhofstadt should call for action.

The EU and it's biggest proponents the EU Lib Dum group doesn't like the current Polish government because it isn't pro EU enough and doesn't agree with its migrant quotas.

If the Polish ruling party was that extreme why do Theresa Mays Tories ally with them in the European Parliament.

Who should decide who governs Poland - mobs protesting in Warsaw or the Polish people via a general election? Seems the EU Lib Dums want the former and seemingly an effective coup against the elected parliament.

It speaks volumes when a beurcrat from Belgium, the same one involved in Brexit, wants to BlackBall another EU country.

Probably but then he is the negotiator rep for the EU parliament , Michel Barnier the former French Foreign Minister and now the EU Commission guy is the one in the top job when it comes to negotiations and he is the one laying down the law so to speak . Verhofstadt was the one who ripped in to the council recently and threatened that the EU parliament would negotiate directly with the UK
