Sports coverage rights are very often restricted to a particular country by the sporting association that sells them.
I am guessing what you are really asking is how to get around geo-lock rights restrictions. That is illegal and can't be discussed here. Can only suggest you try and find out if there is a local rights holder in the US for the sports in question. |

Phone apps or computer online.
I say World Service as a BBC Scotland match if important enough will be broadcast on the other channels too. There are sports and football programmes broadcast every day on the BBC World Service, and considerable coverage at weekends, so she will find good coverage online. The World Service also rents broadcasting time on facilities around the world, so it MIGHT be that they are broadcasting on an FM transmitter within range of your girlfriend. That's going to be more prevalent than the BBC Scotland broadcasts by themselves. If all else fails, it is becoming commonplace to be able to listen to overseas programmes via a VPN ( Virtual Private Network ) where using the network is like a gateway that ends within the country of your choice - you have to pay to use it, of course. It all hinges around ending up with an IP address that is local to the country that you want to listen to "home" broadcasts from. Also check out satellite broadcasting, as some European-based satellites which carry radio channels such as Talk Sport and BBC Scotland, might be receivable in the U.S.A. Those are some basic ideas - hopefully other forum members more technically knowledgeable can add details specific to Maryland ? |

There's a website I use to listen to American and Australian radio stations (they pretty much cover every country though, including the UK) called www.surfmusic.de.
Just posting that in case it's of some use. |

The BBC Radio Player App is now available in Offshore repositories, so can be downloaded from Itunes or Google Play without doing the trickery you needed to
Failing that Tunein also allows you to listen As others have said the only problem with Radio 5 is that they do broadcast sports that are Geolocked, and you get the annoying "I'm sorry but the current programme" VPN did used to let you get round that but the BBC have now blocked most VPN sites, if you still really want her to be able to access sports then running your own personal VPN server would allow her to connect via your system and would not be detectable by the BBC |

The other way you could get around the streaming restrictions would be to listen to 5 live or Talksport via the various websdr receivers that are online!

If all else fails, register a credit card with 1899.com, dial her number in the USA via 08081 708 708 and play the radio commentary down the phone !
Primitive but effective, and it's only a 4p connection fee plus 1p per minute, so the two halves of 90-minute match would cost under a pound. |

I have Avast internet security and an option that comes with that is a tool called 'Secureline' which provides 'military grade' security. You can choose your location, so for example if i want to listen to Geo blocked USA radio stations, I select Miami as my location, and you are home and dry!
