Christmas day as annual leave
Is it against the law to be forced to take xmas and new year as part of you're annual leave or not get paid for....?|

What would the alternative be? Letting people to go to work on Xmas day in businesses when there is literally nothing to do on that day?

They can take all bank holidays including Christmas Day out of annual leave if that is what your contract says, that's why I dislike anyone suggesting more bank holidays they don't seem to understand it takes away from many peoples holidays.

My partner has to take the public holidays as annual leave as the shop she works in doesn't open on Bank Holidays.
In my job I get 29 days leave PLUS the bank holidays |

In most jobs bank holidays are separate to annual leave entitlement.
In our place the building closes, so you couldn't come to work even if you wanted to. |

btw, contrary to what some are posting, statutory holiday entitlement in the uk is 5.6 weeks per year pro rata, not 28 days. if someone is contracted to work 5 days a week then the minimum number of days would be 28 pro rata, but someone who only works 4 days or less is not entitled to 28 days for example https://www.gov.uk/holiday-entitleme...ts/entitlement there's no statutory right to have bank holidays, public holidays, weekends or any other specific day off |

Every job I've ever had has specified the number of days leave separate from Bank Holidays. So currently my contract says '25 days annual leave plus public holidays'. |

You are talking about a one off extra day off...if an extra bank holiday was added (not a one off) than I am sure the government would adjust it to 29 days minimum. |
