TV predictions for 2017. What channels do you think will launch/rebrand/close in 2017? It seems to be some music channels every year but none ever do..

One of the streaming services will pull out of original content citing mounting debts and then be bought out.

TruTV - if the so-called funding deal Turner is trying to negotiate with third parties fails. It won't be missed much, anyway, with its glut of crime dross adding nothing of value to the Freeview lineup.

I'm hoping for BBC ONE to get a rebrand this year - the current circles have sadly been aging. I'd love to see the circle concept get reinvigorated, considering it's proven itself to make it as a strong brand identity for the channel.

It's only really Amazon and Netflix that make original content. Both make loads of profit so which one are you on about?

Maybe bring back a balloon that looks like a globe. Nothing could match that for the best BBC ident!

The upside in the latest Q3 figures were that Netflix outperformed predictions for earnings and growth domestically but international figures disappointed. However underlying worries concern markets wher free cash flow moved deeper into the red. slumping to -$506 million in Q3 due to front-loaded spending on original content. Netflix expects a similar result in Q4. Thus, Netflix is only earning a profit on paper; from a cash perspective it is losing more money than ever.

None will pull out of original content however Disney could make a bid to buy Netflix.

The PSB HD channels are just as random on Freesat.

HD swap is enabled for BBC TWO HD (Network) and Channel 5, but BBC ONE, ITV and Channel 4 look as if the regions haven't been rolled out. Once they have then HD swap can be enabled for those channels, as is nations for BBC TWO.

Sky to launch dedicated UHD channels for sport, entertainment and movies?
Could another large TV company launch a free to air channel like Your TV, Blaze? (what other large TV companies dont have a free to air channel, maybe Disney?)
Could Viacom launch Milkshake as a dedicated kids channel (although I thought they would have replace Channel 5 +24 with it this year?
Sky make Real Lives free to air and rebrand it or close it altogether (there have been no new programmes for a long time, they may do something with it this year)
Sky also eventually rebrand Sky 2 into a male skewing channel?
AMC closes down due to low ratings (it cant last too much longer, can it? Its ratings are disastrous)

Sky Ultra HD - doubt it at this point for separate channels. Would be more realistic to have only one UHD channel.
Not sure about American companies like Comcast jumping on the Freeview craze, if anything. I don't think Disney would think to launch a new channel considering how ABC1 went.
Milkshake channel? Doubt it.
Real Lives and Sky2: The lack of the Sky name makes it ever more likely to go FTA. Sky however have problems getting it to Freeview - no capacity on COM5 and their three slot threshold which is outdated. I'd love to see Sky2 get pulled off air for something like Sky Bravo, they've missed a beat with the male audience, and Sky2 frankly is a lost cause.
AMC won't close, but their decision to lock it in a BT Sport paywall for limited content was poor.

For a BBC ONE rebrand - I'd love to see the circles reinvigorated and the globe brought back. Having both strong synonymous symbols for BBC ONE would be a killer combination, along with an excellent soundtrack. The balloon was great. It's a shame that it was scrapped out of the hatred of it by Heggessey, who then brought out a shite pres package in Rhythm and Movement.

BT may finally launch there much rumoured entertainment channel sometime in 2017..
BT have said it will be improving its TV service and Youview in 2017.
I also can't see AMC closing
Amazon may have loads of people like me using the site for shopping but Netflix has more subscribers than Amazon Prime Instent video. Both will keep investing in original programming to try and get more subscribers.
BT Sport doing more sharing deals with CH4/CH5 and maybe the BBC.
As for a BBC1 rebrand I would rather see the BBC invest in more programming than use the money on a channel rebrand.
Some big company may try in put a bid in to take control of ITV.
Sky will spend even more money to try and keep the contract deals it already has since Fox will now be getting full control of Sky.

Is AMC not BTs attempt at an entertainment channel? Why would they launch another one? Also are most TV companies not locked in with Sky for years to come? They would hardly launch a linear channel today id say, maybe OTT?

US Satellite is yet to have a dedicated 4K channel yet, 4K sports still appears to be one-offs (i.e. one Baseball game a week rather than all games) and the NFL aren't even doing "proper" HD yet. Part of the reason is the cost of doing 4K that there's only two sets of cameras and Ops Van moving from venue to venue plus the stadia need to be rewired with Optical fibre

http://www.patriots.com/news/2016/11...w-nfl-stadiums

Currently if you have a 4K box with DirectTV then 4K programmes are On-Demand rather than broadcast as part of scheduled programming

No there is actually a dedicated 24/7 UHD channel on Directv but it doesnt have a name..there are 3 UHD channels I think, one part time for events, one 24/7 that has concerts/documentaries and I'm not sure what the other is?

My predictions:
1: Itv make an HD swap in the Autumn.
2: Following a second failed attempt at the pay tv market with Itv Box Office, Itv is put up for sale after loosing money.
