It's about something triggering a negative emotional response.
Most people will have experienced it at some level, even if it's just a song which reminds them of a sad event in their life. However, most people recognise that
lots of things remind them of past events and just get on with their lives without blaming others for causing the emotional response.
There are always going to be extreme cases in which someone has suffered a genuinely traumatic experience and something will remind them of it, causing stress or anxiety, but it can be
anything ... even a minor detail. For example, if someone was sexually assaulted by a person wearing a red hooded top, seeing someone in a red hooded top will quite naturally take them back to that event, even if only for a brief moment. However, it doesn't mean that red hooded tops should be banned!
Unfortunately, there are those who want to ban anything which
might trigger a negative emotional response and, as is often the case, they take it to ridiculous levels. Invariably, they claim to be doing it 'on behalf' of others so convince themselves they're making the world a better place.
In my experience, it's nothing new. It's just that with social media those people now have a louder voice.
