A Blackpool man’s controversial choice of Christmas illumination has sparked fury from local residents and a late-night visit from the police.

Steve McGawley was confronted by officers at his home in the seaside resort on Monday night and filmed the encounter through a first-floor window.

The Blackpool Gazette reported the controversy began when the 47-year-old joker used fairy lights to depict a flashing penis on the wall of his house.

Alongside the penis was a festive bell complimented by the word “end” in giant letters. The video, contains some strong language. "

What a real chav.

I was trying to curb any offensive language, "chav" was the cleanest I could come up with.

It seems some thought it was funny -

“If you have your kids up late enough to see them lit up then you’re a bad parent. Watershed for decorations should be a thing. After hours then you can’t complain.”

Nigel James Proffitt said: “We should do a whip around for his fine. Its £90; if everyone who was so annoyed at it put in £10 and those that loved it put in £1 we’d soon be there.”

It is funny in a way. The guy is obviously an attention seeker of the first order.

Well let me put it this way. If it was my neighbour or someone living close, I wouldn't know whether to laugh or shake my head in sheer amazement at the crass stupidity of it.

As with any such outlandish action though, there will always be mixed feelings. For instance you might say to a neighbour "what kind of idiot would do that?" and the reply might be "Oh I think it's quite funny really"

It is the most shocking thing I have ever seen in my whole life. What a rude man. 20 years in jail, minimum.

That cracked me up.

In fact, I found the whole thing pretty funny. Probably a good thing I'm not a police officer, I wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face on that call.

People who find this funny probably think The Big Bang Theory is hilarious.

If people think that is offensive they haven't been to Blackpool during Scottish Week.

I'd say more along the lines of those who find it funny have probably laughed themselves to tears over videos of people falling over or getting punched in the face.

Typical chav response though .. "I was only joking". Funny how it's only a "joke" when they get pulled up on it or the police get involved.

Police woman.... " Your penis is still offensive!"

Haha, There's something you don't hear every day. One for every young scallies bucket list.

The policewoman uttering those immortal lines will surely have some reference to them on her leaving card in twenty years time.

Technically a penis is not offensive IIRC, obviously slapping it at someone will get you some jail time.

We have loads of classical nudes of men with todgers being present and none of them are locked away just for the fact they have 'meat and 2 veg' on display.

Context is key here...he seems to be a bit of a joker who probably has a history with the person across the street? and thus its escalated. The fact he's recording means he knows he's going to get some attention from the police and thus recording all his side of it in case he gets sent up.

The police officer sounds a bit like at the end of the shift voice where all I want to do is close this thing and get back and get changed and f--- off home.

Didn't you recently try to insult people with that same line in another thread?

Or maybe some of us just find inappropriate humour to sometimes be funny?

It's a shame we can't laugh at light up dicks at Christmas without being insulted

I agree with you. It's very childish and silly humour but it could be the sort of thing that makes you smile and shake your head saying 'oh daves at it again'
Far from offending the kids, I think they'd be the ones sniggering as it's schoolboy level humour

Remember. An idiot is not just for Christmas, he's there all year round.

Childish and in poor taste. Still, it is said that Christmas is for children.
