Santa clause 3 - tiny letter boxing?
Watched about 2 mins of santa clause yesterday on BBC1, I had 'screen fit' enabled on my Samsung Tv.
There were small (5% ish of the screen) borders at the top/bottom - what are these? Is it just a case of for some films they shoot at a different aspect ratio? Shot in 4K (versus uhd) or a bit of pan, scan and cropping? Also when I enabled '16x9' the borders had gone so some zooming in to crop out these borders was done. |

1:85.1 is almost 16:9 but not quite so you get very small black bars.

A 16:9 TV screen is 1.77:1, since most movies are shot at 1.85:1 or wider you'll get borders of varying sizes on a TV if they're shown in their correct ratio.
