Hope you get well soon and continue to serve the country in the magnificent way you have for all those years ma'am... *cough* OBE *cough*

The common cold is a virus (antibiotics useless) which constantly mutates (so last year's antibodies, ''remembered'' by your immune system, won't be much use this year). Similar for flu, the jabs are ''last known version'' .......

Don't the royal rely on alternative and herbal medicines
The tincture of spiced nettle flower obviously didn't do much good on this occasion

It's just been announced that Zara Phillips has suffered a miscarriage do I wonder if this was anything to do with the delay?

As I have no interest in the royals, when we're these pair last seen in public?

When they pop off, it'll be days after before we mere peasants will be informed.

Possibly. But in any event, I'm increasingly getting the sense that neither of them have colds, or if they did, they were never so bad that they would have prevented them from travelling at the usual time and date.

Of course not!.... they can't be at a big xmas lunch the day before and fly off in a helicopter the day after, and be too ill to travel on the middle day!..... Do they think we are all stupid or what!.....lol....

Am I being a bit tin foil hat to suspect that there may have been something else going on - like a specific security alert?”

First off, older people are NOT less likely to get a cold no matter how many germs they have been subjected to. Second, I have just had this heavy cold that is mentioned and it's a right nasty little bug. If you are in your 90s it would be wise to take extra care as it could easily turn into something much more serious. Also I don't agree with your cosseted remark....they meet far more people than you or I are likely to and from all different backgrounds . I grant you their medical care would be better though. Security alert perhaps.....happy Christmas

That's a bit of an exaggeration because few viruses mutate as fast as flu and some others. Minor virus mutations can still allow 'last year's' antibodies to be partially effective. Antibodies will resist reinfection from many viruses but the success rate does of course vary a lot and flu is sometimes a particularly tough one to handle.

Wishing their own children would look after mommy & daddy for just one day, instead of relying on the lower classes having to disrupt their family Christmas, ah well, I'm alright jack

Royal staff are probably falling over themselves to volunteer for the job. I'd bet that the overtime applications are over subscribed and paid at triple time.

They probably are, maybe that's because their paid such a low salary, they rely on overtime.

What are their salaries, btw, as you seem to have inside information?

Wow. Some of the responses on here are shocking. If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all is something I was taught from a young age.

Yes, shocking! If for nothing else, they deserve respect for just being human beings. The hatred in our country sickens me.

From a young age, I was taught, respect is earned and not a god given right.

Plenty of information available publicly on what the queen mother's royal page (William Tallon) who may I add, served the QM for 51 years earned annually.

if you can't be bothered to research, fyi, after 51 years of service, within 12 months of the QM death, this dedicated individual was evicted from Clarence House and left homeless.

As I mentioned in a previous post, ah well, I'm alright jack.

No, I can't be bothered to research. I'm not the one saying these people are underpaid for what they do. Presumably they get paid the going rate.

Lower ranks of the Royal Staff have traditionally earned 'Bugger-All'.

I think there has been a review and they now get 'Bugger-All and a bit'

I am sure our Queen and the Duke will enjoy their dinner and the after dinner games they play with the family like Pass The Crown, Pin the Tail on the Corgi, Musical Thrones, etc. I wonder if they actually watch the Queen's Christmas Message on TV.
