The depth of intellect and moral rectitude in DS forums never ceases to amaze me.
Sorry lets go back to the 20's or 30's where such slurs are acceptable

What an English word means in Arabic is completely irrelevent.

If your offended because an English word sounds like an insult in another language, then you are so easily offended, offending you is no breach of ettiquette.
In France they say musulman which always sounds like muscle man to me and I have visions of Tony Holaand flexing his body to 'Wheels Cha-Cha'. 💪

What words mean to other people is very relevant when you are communicating with other people.
If your offended because an English word sounds like an insult in another language, then you are so easily offended, offending you is no breach of ettiquette.
If you chose to use words that you know others find pejorative or derogatory then it is you who are deliberately breaching etiquette.

1. Boris won't be Foreign Secretary at the end of the year, is replaced by either Michael Fallon or Liam Fox. Boris becomes International Trade Secretary in reshuffle with Liam Fox getting Foreign Secretary or Defence Secretary post and Fallon getting/keeping the other.

2. Article 50 delayed due to House of Lords

3. John McDonnell replaces Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader, Jeremy however remains in the shadow cabinet as Leader of the House

4. Trump's first year sees the US leave certain trade agreements, tougher immigration checks and more border patrol officers at the Mexican border

5. Theresa May and Donald Trump create a strong alliance with Trump supporting the UK in brexit negotiations

6. Fillon becomes President of France narrowly beating LePen in final round of voting

7. Merkel will still be Chancellor of Germany at the end of the year

8. Netherlands Freedom party wins most votes but opposition parties form a coalition to keep them out of power

9. Ruth Davidson and the Scottish Conservatives rise in the Scottish polls and become favourites to win certain seats in Scotland in Aberdeenshire, Edinburgh, South Scotland, Argyll and Bute (Faslane area), East Renfrewshire while Nicola and the SNP gradually lose support throughout the year due to people getting bored of her all talk/moan but no action policy

10. Lib Dems rise in polls and become favourites to win seats in remain areas they once held, as well as rich parts of remainer London

11. Trump and Putin/Russia create a new powerful alliance which leads to ISIS wipeout by the end of the year

12. Trump's global economic policies do more damage than brexit ever could do

13. Russia builds and strengthens it military and nuclear powers, hinting to the world they are preparing to invade parts of Eastern Europe to recreate the USSR which frightens the EU nations putting Britain in a better position at brexit negotiations as we will have improved our relations with Russia due to Trump and the EU will need our military support and influence to protect them from Russia

14. A major terrorist attack will take place in a major UK city (Manchester, Liverpool or Glasgow) which kills between 30-130 people

15. A major politician will be assassinated, and it won't be Trump

And lol at the "It's always been Moslem to me even when growing up" yeah right. At least try to be convincing.

I was surprised at the post inferring "Moslem" was somehow derogatory, because I had no idea. I just assumed it was an alternative spelling due to the difficulties of transliteration, and could be used interchangeably. I immediately tried to remember if I've said it to, and therefore unwittingly offended, any of my Asian acquaintances.

The thing is, I can't remember, because I've never thought about it. Anyway, if I have said it, no one has ever corrected me or acted offended, so I assume they realise no offence was meant.

Benefit of the doubt then.

In more recent times though it's definitely used as derogatory term.

1. The Libdems continue to win local/council seats and win a shock by-election gain along the way.

2. The pollsters continue to desperately keep UKIP relevant which becomes more laughable throughout the year.

3. The Snoopers Charter spirals out of control leading to massive outrage.

4. All new parties will fall victim to FPTP...oh wait, that's for 2020.

The key political issue won't be brexit. It will be the NHS. May will try and say the efficency measures are locally decided by experts, but the reality will create a high stink in all constituencies. Looking at my local proposals, they involve concentrating from 2 to one main hospital, 60 minute ambulance runs to the remaining full scale hospital, and fewer beds. Locally, the 3000 beds currently available, are due to fall to 2800, but, by 2021, a rising population, and an aging one, will increase demand to 3600. The plan is to cut that to 2600. Elective operations will fall by 17% and inpatient stays will be limited to 10 days. This simply won't work, and will produce demonstrations all over the place. May is going to have to find a lot of money to avoid losing votes.

The Lords will be the biggest problem for brexit

internationally ,Trump is worryingly likely to prove a dangerous halfwit, early on.

Russia will prove difficult , and continue to support states Trump has a problem with.

Iran has an election and won't take kindly to changes to the nuclear agreement. Nor will Europe, China or Russia. Israel won't tolerate Iran building Iranian bases in Syria, or Lebanon, so there's a problem ready to explode there too.

China isn't going to respond well to Trump, attacking its economic policy , or interfering more in its security zone.

And in the background, N Korea is getting nearer and nearer to having a working ICBM, with a nuclear warhead, that can hit the US - while taking it out, will cause a war, that will make Iraq look like a tea party.

ISIS will lose nearly all its territory by 2018. But the war in Syria will go on.

There will continue to be very sadly more high profile celebrity deaths in 2017, and quite a few will come "out of the blue", and be totally unexpected.

Major NHS/Health reforms will be proposed by a new Health Secretary to turn the healthcare system to a universal multi-payer system with two main types of health insurance, public and private which of course will be controversial among the opposition.

Merkel will be defeated but Germany will cinque under an coalition.

French election is a tricky one it's a toss up atm but I would give it to fillon even though he is likely to cause greater rifts in France than le pen ever could.

Italy will remain a mess.

Here in the UK more crowing from sturgeon while doing nothing herself

Labour losses in the local elections

Buisness as usual with the government

Sadly bit likely more terrorist attacks in Europe.

I would imagine some sort of a warmer relationship between Russia and the usa to combat the growth of China both economic and it's military.

The wild card of my guesses though would be some sort of financial collapse in Japan.
