I love that Kate Bush and Tina Turner are in the top 5. Talent wins out. I thought Rihanna would have been ahead of Taylor Swift. It's shocking that Prince is only at 20.

Female

1. Adele
2. Kate Bush
3. Whitney Houston
4. Tina Turner
5. Beyonce
6. Kylie Minogue
7. Taylor Swift
8. Madonna
9. Rihanna
10. Lady Gaga

Male

1. David Bowie
2. Elvis Presley
3. Ed Sheeran
4. Michael Jackson
5. Bruce Springsteen
6. Michael Buble
7. Sir Elton John
8. Rod Stewart
9. Bob Dylan
10. Frank Sinatra

For some reason, that link takes me to a DM article from 2006 about Chris Tarrants marriage break up

Though that list probably proves what I already knew in that my musical tastes is far away from the average UK music listener. Out of those 2 lists, I can't see one name of a artist I like

It's a poor reflection on British female artists that Adele (yawn) and Kate Bush are the only contenders. Where's Lennox? She used to win the Brit Award every year (or it seemed like it).

Is Bowie number one because he's died this year? Because I'm afraid to have to report that #7, Sir Elton, is a hell of a lot less cool but he's actually sold a lot more records than Dave.

I was actually thinking I like about half of them. Some on there I can't stand either.

It actually struck me that I radically prefer the male artists on there to the female ones (with the exception of Sheeran and Buble - who are horribly dull). Most of the other fellas on there I'd have to concede have got pretty impressive back catalogues, whether I love them or not.

What was this list based on seeing as the link you've posted takes me to an article on Chris Tarrant as mentioned by another poster?

Was it based on record sales, a survey, radio plays?
