What's the point off the automatic update options when it doesn't work or do anything.

It works occasionally for me. I find the phone has to be plugged in and not used for a long time.

But yes it's awful. On Android it just works.

I know I have tried everything. It's since iOS 10 update, and I have to say this is the worst software update ever. Go back to iOS 9 Apple

I find apps download automatically when plugged in and connected to WiFi-even if they are set up to do so over mobile data.

I've also noticed the App Store notifies me of pending updates when I've installed a new release of the Public Beta also.

I find that if the phones in Low Power Mode then apps don't auto update while charging.
With Low Power turned off apps update automatically.

I have a similar problem in that apart from my phone not getting auto updates, if I search for an app and then try to download it nothing works. However, if I reboot, then it works.

Only prevailed since I upgraded to 10.1 and still the same in 10.2 - any ideas?

Literally just make sure Wifi is on and plus it in.

If you haven't tried a backup/erase/restore using either iCloud or iTunes that is worth a go.
