Is it just me who finds them over rated? High prices, can't hear conversations, seated next to loud people, seated to close to other people etc...

I love eating out but that's largely because I never learnt to cook properly.

I love cooking but I enjoy eating out as well because it means someone else is doing the cooking. We have lunch out most Sundays.

Yes because I can't cook and it is a nice social activity beyond drinking in a bar/going to the cinema which usually make up my other social activities.

I am lucky I live in the countryside and have a lot of choice me and my 3yo granddaughter had lunch in a lovely pub Wednesday waiting till it was time to go somewhere else

She was, and always is, lovely company just like her 5yo sister. Just sitting chatting quietly. I love going out for lunch now.. When my children were small it was not the done thing to take children into pub restaurants unless for Sunday Lunch and family get together . IE rare

I can remember being stuck in the pub 'garden' while my dad was in the pub. He used to drag us along with him on Sundays sometimes. Never even bought us anything. He once left us out there in a thunderstorm while he stayed inside, dry and warm with his dad and friends. We were too scared to go into the pub, it would have meant a beating, so we stayed outside in the rain for what felt like hours.

It's nice that particular tradition has ended and pubs are more family friendly now. It's also nice that now there's a Childline.

Sounds very much like my own childhood. Used to be a fair number of children outside day and night waiting for parents. if we were lucky we might get a arrowroot biscuit . I could not imagine leaving my grandchildren outside at the ages they are and yet me and my brother were outside at their ages.

No. I'll only eat out if I'm away.

In the 80,s & possibly before that, it was quite common to see adults ordering a meal for themselves but not for their children.
While waiting for their food to be cooked, they used to take a 10p cup drink out of their bag, along with a packet of crisps to give to the children.

I never took my children to pubs.

I do enjoy eating out though. Its something I do of

I almost never eat lunch out, but I have dinner in good restaurants at least once per week, sometimes twice.
An uncle said to me once, if you look at a menu on a restaurant door, or window, just check what food is on it, anyone who looks at the prices can't really afford to eat out.
He was a London taxi driver, and said that if he was sitting on a rank, reading the paper, and waiting for a fare, if someone asked him "How much to wherever?", he'd know that they probably couldn't afford it."

Yes, it's good to be out socialising with friends over good grub.

While I don't have children myself, my siblings do and we get together for a meal out every few months. I much prefer pubs that are family friendly even if it's just me and a few friends going out. They just feel safer and have a nicer atmosphere.

The Mrs finds me odd but I never liked restaurants. I'd much rather a take away at home if truth be told. I can't be bothered paying over the odds and the waiting etc. Nope not for me.

My brother is the same. He prefers a take away, whereas I prefer eating out. I don't think I've had a take away this year...

I enjoy lunch or dinner out. Conversations with friends in f family without the distractions of having to cook and dish out and clear up. Love it.

when I was working, I liked to eat out on the way home, it was so much easier after a long day at work but I still packed a lunch for the next day. Now that we are retired, I like to eat out but only do it for birthdays anniversary etc. Or if we are on a trip. We do cook good food at home. But I find it cheaper to go out for a nice steak. The ones from the supermarkets are never as tender.

While I enjoy family meals out, I try to avoid work events if I can. My workplace tends to rewards teams with meals out at the end of projects, and it's hard to turn down a free meal out without looking ungrateful. I'm assuming that's only for successful projects, but I've not been on a disastrous one yet, so can't say for sure - always time though!

I don't do take aways very often these days as when you've a family of 5 to pay for it works out quite expensive. Its usually just a treat at birthdays etc.

What I do like doing though and what I did this morning was when out shopping call into the likes of Costa for a coffee and perhaps a piece of cheesecake or something.

I love food. It's my absolute passion.... Thinking about it, cooking it, talking about it, eating it. Every aspect. So I love going to restaurants (new ones and tried and tested ones) getting inspiration and trying new things.

I should be the size of a house, or a small bungalow at least. But being caeful about what I eat means i can have the occasional blowout (or a week-long one at Christmas!).

Do it all the time when meeting people. Gets too expensive if you're doing it for lunch breaks though

I love eating out but more and more I find myself outvoted and we end up in Burger King or bloody Subway. That's not even food.

Pre-kids we ate out in nice places a lot.

Tbh my absolute favourite is a chippy tea at home. In my jammies on the sofa. Elasticated waist, see.

Yes, I like going to the one in Sainsbury's up the road from my flat, in fact I went there this evening for tea.
