I take your point patsy, but as Uncle Frank said, there wasn't a set price to somewhere, like a bus or a train, £X from Waterloo to Richmond, or £X from Liverpool Street to Highgate, no matter how long it took.
If he was at Victoria Station, and a fare wanted to go to Battersea, it might be £8.80 to £9.20 one day, another day, if there was heavy traffic, (roadworks, Chelsea Flower Show), it may go £13.40 to £14.60.
Another place he said he avoided, was Victoria Coach Station.
He said that after having travelled hundreds of miles among loads of bawling kids, and sweaty people, for £2.00, fares would protest bitterly at paying £4.80 to go to Trafalgar Square, even though they had the warm, or air-conditioned in summer, taxi to themselves.
