Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are two passengers onboard a spaceship transporting them to a new life on another planet. The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination. As Jim and Aurora try to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction... only to be threatened by the imminent collapse of the ship and the discovery of the truth behind why they woke up.
Anyone been to see this film already or have plans to do so?

Nope. From the trailer it just screamed 'serious, moody rip off of Lost in Space' at me so have decided to avoid it at all costs.

Yes, Alien. That famous A-lister starring science fiction romance.

Part of me thinks this movie would have much better with a creative change or if the plot was more similar to something like Dead Space and focused more on the Sci-fi aspect of the film. Of course seeing how bad video game movies are it’s probably a good thing they didn’t go down that route. The few actors in the film simply can’t overcome the writing shortfalls. Passengers isn’t a bad film but it isn’t a good one either. Missed opportunities keep it from it’s potential. Don’t let the marquee names fool you; you are better off renting this film at home.

Watched it yesterday, ok throw away movie really, however without going into spoiler territory never has there been a character in a movie which is just so convenient for the plot lol

Watchable for the two leads, not much more than that really

It's a love story, that's all.

There seem to be a lot of reviews from people who seemingly haven't actually seen the film! I'm guessing I may actully be the only person to have seen it posting to this thead so here's my view. Saw it last night and quite enjoyed it. Don't get the Alien comparison at all! It's somewhere between Castaway and Wall-E in reality. Maybe with a touch of Titanic thrown in (not a good thing IMO actually).

The acting is a little bit ropey, especially J-Law, and the script is clunky but there's enough chemistry between Pratt & Lawrence and enough humour and drama. What I especially liked though and what they kept out of the trailers very well is there's some real moral ambiguity that's dealt with and unusually for a Hollywood movie they take their time and deal with it properly.

My 11 year-old daughter enjoyed it although she was a bit embarrassed by the amount of sex. My wife, who hates all things Sci-Fi,m loved it. Considering the utter durge I've seen at the cinema in general this year, it was a pleasantly good way to end the year. 7/10

I just got back from this.

The trailer markets the movie as a sci-fi mystery type deal. But really it is nothing more than a rom-com in space.

I think Chris Pratt really held the movie up, his charisma alone carried most of the movie which without him would have been incredibly dull and plodding imo. J-Law had some good scenes particularly towards the end of the movie but for her first 45 minutes or so she really seems to be struggling to act.

All in all I'd give Passengers a 5/10, it's okay, certainly watchable, but not a movie I would rush to see more than once.

Awful film - Chris Pratt was on his own tooooo long, so boring (doesn't help he can't act) Jen was the only thing that could save it, but with a story going nowhere, she couldn't.

3/10

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

There are all kinds of plot holes in the film, including the fact that there’s only one medical bio-bed for a ship containing 5,258 people. What they ignore most of all is that there is actually a way for both characters to survive to reach their destination. Once they have the command codes for the bio-bed and realise they can use it as a suspended animation pod, they could each have taken it in turns to be frozen for a year. They'd meet once a year at the changeover and see each other gradually grow older over time. An eighty-eight year trip would then have been reduced to forty-four years for each. They’d have been in their seventies maybe when they reached the planet, but they’d probably both have made it alive.

Funny how opinions differ, I actually thought the part where Chris was on his own was when the movie was at it's most intriguing and isolated, and the movie immediately fell apart the minute Jennifer was introduced, as her acting for the most part was incredibly, incredibly dry, to the point where I was wondering if she'd bothered at all, the fact she got paid double what Chris Pratt got paid for this movie boggles my mind.

I think it would have been an enjoyable popcorn flick in the summer, but at this time of year where this is one of the few films on that isn't called "Star Wars", it needed to offer a bit more depth than it did, and I certainly feel the trailers gave a false representation of what the movie was going to be.

It's an enjoyable film with some great sets, but there are lots of stupid plot holes. Still, it's better than more Star Wars!

Love how posters "review" it without seeing it. Well I loved it. Don't over think it. It's a love story set on a space ship. But I couldnt take my eyes off the screen and never once looked at the time, which I did 3 or 4 times in Rouge One. 8/10

Haven't seen the pic yet so there may be reasons, but why stop at just the two, involve more people, 80 would have meant everyone would age by just one year, 160, 6 months

Hmm. On paper it's all there, isn't it.

Sexy mystery science fiction romance in space with Chris & Jen. Here, take my money.

Alas, it seems the reality is somewhat different. Well done, Sony, you really blew this one.

That's the part that might have been there on paper but wasn't there at all for the actual movie.

Saw it last night and it was ok, but very bland. It wasn't the sci-fi epic I thought it was going to be. I felt a bit tricked given the trailers.

Lots of online comments say how similar to Red Dwarf it is-if Red Dwarf was a romance, not a sitcom! :

It's pretty obvious whoever the writers are they've seen Red Dwarf.
