The pointless conflicts that seem to arise in every single episode of Coronation Street are beyond a joke. Every single one of them plucked from thin air by the writers to generate 'explosive drama'.

Do the writing and storylining team use a copy of Drama for Dummies when writing their scripts? Create as much conflict between characters as you can and you'll create great drama. That's all they seem able to do.

Tonight we had:

Bitching between Michelle and Steve.

Sniping among the Barlows.

Gary laying into Luke.

Leanne laying into Nick.

Eva and Maria's feud slowly building.

Adam and Aidan's conflict brewing away.

This is all that Coronation Street is based on these days.

All anyone ever does is shout, bitch and moan. No wonder so many viewers are fed up.

a bit like u then

no but really, im losing count of how many threads I've seen u moan about corrie lately. and like ive said sooo many times (and get ignored for saying it) its not a compulsion to watch it, its just a TV show at the end of the day, and if u don't like it: Stop. Watching. It. when im watching it and its crap, i stop watching it, why don't u do the same?

why moan about a show u clearly aren't enjoying? it doesn't seem to b able to satisfy u, so instead of moaning about it 24/7 just turn it off!

love, Bailey

Great idea - thanks for this.

Tell you what, I'll just **** off and leave you all in peace to marvel at the wonders of Coronation Street.

Have a great time everyone and have a very Merry Christmas.

I wouldn't mind but this is what corrie was built on from the 60's. It was all about confrontations and conflicts of opinion. Sorry OP but you are very tiresome with your continuing slagging of the show. If its so bad and you hate it that much that it drives you to have to put it on the internet I'd suggest you pack in and go and watch your new favourite soap EE, seeing as though you are full of praise for that!

Don't worry Superstar99, you and others have made yourself perfectly clear. I'm taking myself off now to leave you all in peace while you praise at the altar of ITV Coronation Street.

For the record, this wasn't what Corrie was built on. Yes there was conflict but it was grounded in consistent and well-developed characters who were firmly rooted in reality. These days the characters and the conflicts switch depending on whatever the writers want to happen. If you think that the dross that's served up today has any connection to the Coronation Street of even 12 years ago then you are deluded.

Merry Christmas

Conflict makes great drama.

What do you want to watch? A cheery episode where they bake cakes and sing songs. If so, you're better off watching Cbeebies.

Coronation Street is a drama/soap that is used to reflect real life. People have affairs, people have feuds etc.

Well I quite enjoy KornerKabin's posts.

Another point in tonight's episode was Tim telling Norris to 'mind his own business' ... no need for that at all.

Jeeeezzz - the number of times I've read this - most ridiculous statement ever Forums are not just for saying how great a show is, it's about having a moan about something that used to be really good. I agree with KornerKabin, Corrie is not what it used to be, but I shall decide if and when I shall stop watching, and I shall moan all I want for as long as I think there is something to moan about.

to me, it seems like u are stuck in the past. sorry, but its true. u constantly compare modern day corrie to old fashioned corrie. the show obviously will of changed since then, cos its a different generation

it's not the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s or 2000s anymore, times have changed and so has corrie. some ppl just can't seem to accept it

Of course not, but starting new threads every week about it is tiresome tbh. Just enjoy the show

It's not the 1590s anymore but Shakespeare is still considered the greatest dramatist and one of the greatest comedy writers of all time.

Similarly, it isn't the 1800s but the work of Dickens is still treasured.

Great writing is great writing.

Coronation Street has been great in the past, it isn't anymore. That's my opinion on the matter. I will not accept the dross that is churned out under the name of Coronation Street just because 'times have changed'.

KK is entitled to his opinion just as much as you like to go on and on about Kylie Platt.

Don't belittle him or speak to him in this fashion, it's not respectful and thus a contravention of the forum rules.

His knowledge of Corrie history is second to none and he only complains as a fan of the show he loves with all his heart. No need to be so bloody rude, especially at Christmas!

Well you know what, following the logic espoused by you, Cool_mate and others you shouldn't read my tiresome threads if they're that offensive.

Oh but guess what, you still comment?

Please don't throw that stone ...

Yeah but if Norris knew about the TV it wouldn't have been a suprise for very long - oops, he does know.

Yes, because Korner Kabin has been so polite to people who don't agree with him in this thread.

I've only ever read and commented on a couple of your threads, not every single one like you seem to do with Corrie.

Hardly anyone has attempted to enter into discussion with me on this thread, I have just been told to shut up and stop watching. That's hardly the basis for debate and discussion is it?

I love to debate and discuss things at length and have done so on DS for many years now. I am open to people having differing views to mine, but simply saying 'stop moaning and switch off' isn't, in my opinion, a discussion point ... hence the yawn.

That's not what I asked though. I'm genuinely interested in why you watch a show you seem to dislike so much.

KK is a huge fan of Coronation Street. His knowledge of the days when the programme was worth watching is second to none.

Why are some of you jumping down his throat for simply having an opinion that there is too much forced and meaningless conflict on display in the programme these days?

I have also been accused of hating on Corrie even though I love it and grew up on it, but proper Corrie. Not what masquerades as the programme these days where they rarely get the balance right, the comedy is weak and the 'drama' repetitive and contrived.

I'm an irregular viewer these days. To be fair that was initially due to time constraints, but I could pick it up full-time again now with Sky plus, it's just the current quality is no incentive to. To me lines like "vendetta? Ain't that a posh ice cream?" do not denote classic Corrie comedy, and the drama is usually weak variations of Hillman/the street is taken in by a conman type storylines, as well as wearisome feuds and affairs.

Really disappointed in how some of you have spoken to KK.
