Overall, I think it'll get around the same that The Husbands Of River Song did. I don't think it'll top it and I don't think it'll do too badly either.

You don't think the added year hiatus will have an effect?

Checking out the UK TV Ratings thread for Christmas Eve, even Coronation Street only got 4.8m and the top rated show for the whole day was Michael McIntyre with 5.57m. Beginning to suspect my 5.5m prediction might be a tad optimistic!

Yeah. Let's hope people remember to keep the ratings in the wider context of tv watching trends instead of going on about how many viewers the show was getting on broadcast ten years ago. DW doesnt exist in isolation. Apart from baking and dancing nearly all shows have been shedding viewers by the millions. I think Coronation Streets overnights for Christmas have pretty much halved in a decade.

I don't want to be a pessimist on Christmas and all, but...

Not gonna happen.

3-4.5m (Possibly 5 with the Bake Off/Strictly sandwhich)

It's sad that humoungous Christmas ratings are now a thing of the past, but there we are.

Well, we haven't had a new episode in a year so maybe people have forgotten all about it, there has been a lack of promotion (imo) and the Christmas special this year looks poor. So I'm gonna say around 5.5m, maybe less.

Context is indeed important as Who isn't shown in some sort of bubble universe. Was wondering if there was a story about last night's ratings so had a bit of a google; couldn't find anything for yesterday, but apparently Corrie topped the Christmas Eve ratings 4 years ago with 8.6m!

Neeeever gonna happen. Sky will always be falling. Plummeting if you've got a bone to pick with Moffat.

Agreed, last night's ratings were dire, and if that's anything to go by I will revise my rating down to 4.8m

It seems Christmas was the last bastion of 'old' TV viewing to fall as the figures held up comparatively for a while across the board even when at other times of the year they were dropping. But the last 2-3 years have seen an incredible drop in overnights so the old adage that people are 'stuck' in front of the TV and are a captive audience just doesn't apply anymore. Like Michael I did a super quick google search (#science) and a decade ago Coronation Street was well over 10 million viewers for its Christmas episodes.

This is not a good episode and I'm constantly thinking of turning it off.

It's like a comedy sketch of a super-heroes mundane life.

Probably under 5m

Be interesting to see the breakdown as the hour progresses - That's where the real story will be as, potentially, people switch off as its utter shittiness becomes clear.

Bake off, Doctor Who, Strictly. If that doesn't pull viewers, nothing will.
I'd say around 6m, and didn't think it was too bad for a one-off, fun episode.

I don't think Capaldi is ever going to pull in big ratings. He hasn't got the broad appeal. But if the show can hit 5 mill that's okay. The Xmas episode is going to have some non-fans or casual fans tuning in so that helps!

Gotta be frank with you buddy, that prediction is ludicrous. Did you post it as a wind up?

Approximately 5.7 million tuned in, so slightly lower than last year's 5.8 million, but it was once again the 7th most watched show of the night, the same spot it had last year.
