Reports on Twitter coming in

I'm in complete shock. sat in front of Carrie Fisher on our flight from London and she was just taken off the plane by EMTs

no she wasn't breathing for 10 minutes or so. They were administering CPR up until we landed

Yes, hope she's ok although when you read the words "massive heart attack" it doesn't exactly fill you with hope.

Well they brought Fabrice Muamba back from almost certain death so anything is possible, but 10 minutes ?. That doesn't look good.

People on twitter have a point when they say others on social media may be finding this news out before members of her own family. It's a peril of this happening in a public place in the modern Information Age I guess but I still find it uncomfortable.

Really hope she pulls through.

I saw a man breathe his last after a heart attack on holiday in Corfu about 15years ago.
It certainly is awful to witness and must've been far more harrowing for his wife.

Reported on the BBC website now. Hope 2016 isn't finishing as it started.

All we can do is wait for an official source and hope and pray that she is still alive.

She was literally just on 8 Out Of 10 Cats being just as witty and funny as ever.

I really, really hope she pulls through. For both her own sake and her family's.

Somebody on board and near to her has said on twitter she thinks she died.

I hope this is wrong as she is such a lovely person.

Telegraph fact-checker needs firing:

William Shatner, who starred with Ms. Fisher in Star Wars used Twitter to urge fans to send their special thoughts to the actress.

I thought the same thing. It was utterly crass for the people who witnessed it to start tweeting about it in an 'omg I can't believe what just happened' way. No thought for her poor family at all.

How sad.

I really hope she pulls though - thank goodness there were trained medical personnel on board to start CPR giving her a chance.

Sadly however, survival rates for people suffering cardiac arrest outside of hospital are not good. Hopefully Carrie will be in the minority who go on to make a full recovery.

It's being widely reported that her pulse stopped for about 10 minutes, so yes, on the flight she could have been classified as "dead".

But she was resuscitated and currently in critical condition, which unfortunately is not overly exciting news But at least she has some chances at survival.
