People on twitter have a point when they say others on social media may be finding this news out before members of her own family. It's a peril of this happening in a public place in the modern Information Age I guess but I still find it uncomfortable.
Really hope she pulls through. |

Yeah I don't get the way people immediately turn to twitter as a way of "coping" at a time like this. It just reads like "omg you'll never guess what just happened" type bragging. The people in question then started saying they were doing it to help the family get to the hospital quicker but I don't buy that.
They should've realised they'd done something crass and deleted the tweets rather than defending themselves. |

It's being widely reported that her pulse stopped for about 10 minutes, so yes, on the flight she could have been classified as "dead".
But she was resuscitated and currently in critical condition, which unfortunately is not overly exciting news But at least she has some chances at survival.Nobody wants her to be dead as she was loved and liked by most it seems. And her mum isn't well either she said recently so that's horrible. Poor Debbie

I really, really hope she pulls through. For both her own sake and her family's. |

Yeah that's complete BS. Which family wants to find out via bloody twitter?
They should've realised they'd done something crass and deleted the tweets rather than defending themselves. They only like the attention when it's positive, it's quite pathetic. If ya can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. |

She's survived alcoholism, addiction, depression, bipolar disorder and also 60 years in Hollywood.
If anyone can survive this cursed year, it's her. |

Just heard on the radio (according to her brother) she is out of emergency and is now stable.
Really hope she pulls through. |

Really hope she pulls through. It's good that she's stable which means that she may just survive this, but I do worry that not having a pulse for a full 10 minutes must surely have some kind of impact on the brain

According to the Nydailynews via TMZ, medics weren't able to detect a pulse for 15 minutes.
http://www.nydailynews.com/entertain...icle-1.2921704 Wasn't Fabrice Muamba supposedly dead for over an hour and still survived? With miracles of modern medicine she could still pull through yet. |

Here's hoping Carrie pulls through. Others have, so not impossible. How awful though, to have people omg-omg-ing and tweeting the 'news' immediately from the plane before her family have been told. FFS. |

It's good that she's stable which means that she may just survive this, but I do worry that not having a pulse for a full 10 minutes must surely have some kind of impact on the brain ![]() I believe some people get confused about CPR - this rarely restarts the heart but it does maintain organ perfusion until the cause of the cardiac arrest can be treated. The cause could be an arrhythmia (VF, pulseless VT, PEA), a clot in the heart (or lung), tension pneumothorax, hypoxia, hypovolaemia, drug induced, deranged electrolytes etc. The reason the footballer did so well was mainly due to the presence of experts in the crowd who gave good cardiac compressions. Good CPR maintains brain perfusion so, hopefully, Carrie Fisher will recover following the restoration of pulse. However, the precipitating cause of cardiac arrest will need to be addressed as soon as possible. It will have been very scary for witnesses. |
