I thought Tim Curry had a stroke, not a heart attack? (edit - ah, I see I'm not the first to point it out!)

Here's hoping Carrie pulls through. Others have, so not impossible. How awful though, to have people omg-omg-ing and tweeting the 'news' immediately from the plane before her family have been told. FFS.
It is a bit disappointing but at the same time I suppose I can't exactly blame the Youtuber who was on the plane with her that originally tweeted about it, I mean I imagine if someone - particularly someone as famous as Carrie Fisher - literally stopped breathing right in front of me on the plane for a full 15 minutes I would be absolutely bricking it and completely dazed and confused. I guess they tweeted about it just as a way of trying to take the weight off their shoulders. But yes, you'd like to think that clearer heads would have let the family find out first.

Just watching her on 8 Out Of 10 Cats right now. Kind of sad to hear her talking about her plans for Christmas. I'm not a Star Wars fan but she's always quite good value on chat/panel shows. Maybe we can look at it as a positive that she was on a plane when it happened, rather than alone at home or in a hotel room. Anyway, as I said, get well soon Carrie.

She's always been a troubled soul.

I hope that this event is turned into a positive and she turns her life around.

A slightly awkward joke about a pacemaker there. (Apparently her grandmother had one.) In fairness, the announcer did send their best wishes to her before the show started.

The brothers apparently said they've no idea of her condition and she's in intensive care...

It depends on the quality and effectiveness of the CPR and how quickly it was delivered after the absence of a pulse. Out of hospital cardiac arrests normally fare badly because those patients often don't receive good quality CPR until the arrival of paramedics.
....................................................................................

The reason the footballer did so well was mainly due to the presence of experts in the crowd who gave good cardiac compressions. Good CPR maintains brain perfusion so, hopefully, Carrie Fisher will recover following the restoration of pulse.
But she was given CPR by doctors & nurses on board who happened to be passengers. I would like to think that she received the best CPR she could be given without the proper medical equipment. Those professionals on board may just have saved her life.

Get well soon Carrie

This all sounds too familiar, my father in law passed away from a massive heart attack three weeks ago, seemed in good Heath and then went away to Prague and then bam they couldn't do anything for him!..!.. Fingers crossed she will pull through!...

I remembered this showbiz blind from October. It was generally believed to be Carrie. Very sad!!

This B list mostly movie actress probably shouldn’t be that high but she has an iconic role that will be remembered in 100 years and it keeps her there. She likes to pretend she is clean and sober but she isn’t. She prefers pills so that way she looks like she is taking blood pressure pills or something. But, if you have a line of coke, she is just as happy for that too.

There seems some confusion about what actually happened. I'm not sure she suffered a typical heart attack as the people sat near her seem to have no idea what happened other than "she stopped breathing" and we know she went into cardiac arrest. So I wonder if there is another issue. Could an accidental OD trigger that?

The media seem to see "cardiac arrest" and immediately call it a heart attack which according to a few medical peeps on reddit isn't actually the case.

No indeed. Cardiac arrests can be caused by many conditions/situations. We generally class the possible reasons into the 4 Ts and the 4 Hs.
Eg.
Thrombus (clot) due to MI (heart attack) or PE (lung clot)
Tamponade (effusion/fluid in layer surrounding heart restricting its ability to contract)
Tension pneumothorax (air in layer surrounding lung, causing an increase in pressure and shift of heart)
Toxins (drugs eg cocaine etc)
Hypoxia (lack of oxygen for whatever reason)
Hypothermia
Hypo or hyper electrolytes eg potassium
Hypovolaemia (loss of blood volume due to haemorrhage, sepsis etc)

All the above need to be considered as potential reversible causes when we are treating cardiac arrests on wards.

Apparently The People are reporting she has died but no other news outlet has the story, nothing on Twitter or Facebook either about it

edit: TMZ are now running the story so it must be true
