What about cyclists who smoke, they didn't get a mention?

Crazy, isn't it? Every day you see cyclists riding with one hand because they're holding a fag with the other. And if they end up damaging someone's vehicle or, worse yet, hurting someone, you can bet they'll probably scarper, puffing away like a chimney as they ride off, laughing.

I don't even live in a city, yet I see examples from the list almost every day.
Sometimes when I have only driven 0.1miles (According to the dashboard).....my most feared fault is cyclists at night, with zero lights and reflectors in areas with zero or poor (new LED) street lighting (the light pools leaving large dark gaps).
It's like a stealth cyclist......they just emerge out of the dark. As a car driver I am supposed to not knock them down.

But none of it will get addressed, the gov is trying to force people out of cars + onto 2 wheels, that's why so much of the road space in London has been lost to the new cycle super highway. Seems obvious now, all part of a much grander scheme nationwide.

Thank you, this has happened to my twice at least that he knows of, and once to me, but all three times the riders were not smoking but just careless.
The time it happened to me, I was waiting to join a roundabout, and started to enter this, then down this hilly road shot a push bike rider going fast, no lights, I braked, stopped almost on the spot, he lightly hit the front bumper of the car, quickly told me to "f off you f ing C watch where you are going, hand signs and rode off." the rider had no lights at it was very dark, no hi vis wear/etc - this is common occurrence

FYI: My dad has been writing to his MP to support a commons debate regarding this matter but has not got very far with it.
It's one of those low level things, like cats crapping in gardens, that parliament just isn't going to be interested in.

However, I do agree that some cyclists have a very arrogant, nasty and self entitled attitude. The majority are fine, however. But if a cyclist has a helmet cam, I'd suspect they were trying to catch out an unwary motorist in a mistake. Probably behoves motorists to have a dashboard cam for those otherwise edited out moments just before.

The bike overloaded with items - did you weigh them?
Pretty obvious what is meant by "bike overloaded with items". You don't need to weigh them individually to see that at a glance. Weight obviously is a factor, but so too is bulkiness.

That's funny because I thought they were mainly white, male and middle class.

Actually that racist, sexist and ageist Guardian title makes me more irritated than any number of swearing, incoherent cylists

I bet they wouldn't put "black, female and working class". Sneering lefties strike again at the one remaining undefended demographic target.

Doesnt really hang out together though. He was going really fast but we still collided lightly.
I stopped almost on the spot but we collided but lightly and he didn't come off or move 30cm to avoid me.

Are you saying that the title is incorrect and that, actually, London cyclists are balanced evenly with regard to ethnicity, gender and class?

My experience of cycling in London is that it is a fair comment.

In factual terms I wouldn't dispute it.

But you know as well as I, that if most cyclists were "black, female and working class", the good old Guardian wouldn't have put it in those terms. That's if they referred to the demographic at all.

So true. White males are slagged off by lefties all the time. Anyway back on topic cyclists in London drive me mad. They ride, at speed, over pedestrian crossings when I'm on them and it's my right of way as in on zebras and they ride straight through red lights on pelicans. They then call you sweary names and shout at you to "get out the road". Bicycle couriers ride very, very fast and I've seen one holding onto the back of a truck with a trailer bed thing. (I don't drive sorry). I do have a bike but I very rarely ride it as it's just so dangerous to do so in London. Too many people have been killed or seriously injured. I am planning to sell it. It's a fixed gear Specialized Langster and now I'm older I can't ride uphill on it as it has no gears. (It comes without gears for those who don't know what it is). At a green fair in Regents Park the police had a lorry and they invited cyclists to sit in it to show them what a lorry driver can and can't see from the cab. If you get the opportunity to do that I really recommend it, it could save your life.

But do you think over £1bn in London alone would have been spent on cycling infrastructure if the majority of participants and almost all the lobbyists were black, female and working class?

I recon the OP should give up driving ,she comes across as a menace to other road users as she is constantly looking out for smokers and dodgy cyclists when she should keep her eyes on the road

...wait, how does "limited vocabulary" constitute a public safety hazard?
Stop every cyclist and make them take a spelling test, that'll sort them out.

Hey

I tried to join up a few times over the years, but my geneirc Emails were not accepted.

I forward to sharing my views and at times may seek help re questions about certain things.

I loves Cornation Street, and in and out of Emmerdale, and EastEnders, love Citizen Kan and Loose women
It's the smokers and cyclists who are ill educated though

I blame the lefties - apparently we are to blame for everything, as we come in one homogeneous mass apparently, unlike 'righties'.

Does it sound as stupid when I say 'righties' as it does when others say 'lefties'?
