Wait, is this thread meant to be about counties or countries? The title says one and the post says the other

Somerset, Durham and Northumberland. Would've added West Yorkshire to the list this week if not for the worst timed sore throat.

Haven't been out of the country since 2001.
Haven't been out of the country since the 90s, and only country I'd like to visit is Switzerland, but can't see it ever happening now.

We could do both, counties and countries

I've spent most of this summer in and out of 4 Counties, which was a very jolly journey, and felt like going abroad seeing different places. Next year we might make it 5 Counties

Well worth a visit if I may say so.

If you're not keen on flying, you can get high speed train services to Basle. From there it's easy enough to go to places like Lucerne, Interlaken etc. The Swiss are masters of engineering when it comes to mountain railways, most of which are very scenic.

Personally, I'd recommend going to places like Grindlewald and Wengen.

Buy yourself a travel guide, e.g. Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, DK Eyewitness etc. Switzerland is an expensive country to travel around regarding accommodation, eating out, as the GDP per capita is one of the highest in the world.

That must have been a great trip! Did stopovers in New Caledonia and Tahiti years ago on the way back from Indonesia. Very French.

I'm going for countries. Purely because OP location says Scotland, and we generally don't refer to places by county that much.
I live in Angus, been to Perth & Kinross and Fife this year. Its been a few years since I crossed the border but that could happen one of these days.

It's the reason I know I couldn't do cruises: I would want to savour and explore each country, not make a flying visit onshore for a few hours before going back to the boat. But that's just me: I know cruises are very popular. Enjoy Barcelona: what a lovely place to spend New Year!

They usually are when you mention anything about travel. Myself not been out of the UK this year or in fact any other year for that matter.

It's a beautiful country. I went out last year to see my friend who lives in Buchs, right on the border with Liechtenstein.

I Wanted to go to Luxembourg and Liechtenstein too, was within a few miles of both, but it didn't work out time and route wise.

I catch your drift.

Scotland, England and London.
Scotland and England is not much of a boast, but London must give the rubes from the boonies a bit of cachet.

None.

Btw, who was it who said travel narrows the mind?

Just ticking off destinations on a list.
