I wouldn't attempt it, I found many noises painful when I perferated mine, it's not worth the risk.

No surprise then that your eardrum is perforated - your brain will no doubt turn to mush shortly ... |

That's what they recommend these days to soften wax in the ear it's NHS procedure.
In any case, they shouldn't be used by anyone with a perforated eardrum - http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/earwax/...roduction.aspx |

Also never stick cotton buds in your ears.
I have managed to make it into old age without any nasty consequences using the rounded end of a hair grip

I imagine that both you and the OP are referring to Urea Hydrogen Peroxide drops but these are not "bleach".
In any case, they shouldn't be used by anyone with a perforated eardrum - http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/earwax/...roduction.aspx I was told to use it when I had a perferated drum, didn't help so I'm not surprised the advice was wrong. I find best thing is olive oil, old fashioned perhaps but works for me that and don't use in ear earphones that's really had an enormous change in my ear wax problems. |

I never understood why anyone would do this as surely it just compresses old wax.

Yes that's it NHS GP refers to it as bleach so that's what I call it.
Hard of thinking (as well as hard of hearing) patients may take him literally with potentially serious consequences. |

If your GP uses the word "bleach" when recommending the use of eardrops, then he is an idiot.
Hard of thinking (as well as hard of hearing) patients may take him literally with potentially serious consequences. As I said olive oil does the trick usually, had an ear infection a while ago it went away on its own eventually my hearing is coming back a bit in the worst affected ear too so hopeful it's not too damaged. |

thank you all, sorry i havn`t been back since, i forgot i`d started the thread
![]() by bleaching i mean i`ve been using hydrogen peroxide drops, i refer to it as bleach in this instance because that`s how i speak, it`s an informal post on a forum about wearing headphones and i mentioned it as an aside. i cannot believe that i had to explain that. i would not have used the drops if i had known that i had a perforated eardrum. i shall know next time to consult the doctor instead of taking the standard [bad, it seems] nhs advice designed to shorten queues and going for the ear drops first and i would advise anyone else to do the same. sticking things in ears is a big no no and i don`t do it, though this is not because my mother "knows someone" who was rendered paraplegic by way of an earbud in the ear. [i know, i know, she`s full of them ]i`ve got an ent appointment to make [papers came in a week, i`m to see my gp again on the 6th and she is expecting that i will probably have already seen ent by then so if there`s a waiting list it`s about 10 minutes, bonus] regarding the unhealing perforation. until today [ ![]() ] i have had no pain to speak of [recently] in the affected side but it`s the side already affected by trigeminal neuralgia, previous tumour and is half deaf, the perforation could have been there for donkey`s or it could be new[ish] so headphones are off the menu.i didn`t wear the music at all in the finish ![]() thank you lovelies, hope your christmases are merry and your new years are good. |

Someone has been at the cooking sherry.
Any problems with the inner ear and it's best not listen to any loud music, headphones or otherwise. Also don't put your hands in a fire, or sleep on a railway line. |
