EE- Jenna Russell
It is looking very likely that Jenna Russell is joining EastEnders as Michelle Fowler, but will she commit to a long term role in the show? Michelle is an iconic character.

I couldn't stand misery guts Michelle in the 1980s and cannot understand why we need the character back now.

It's not likely Vas she is.
Be interesting to see if this a short or long term stint, would be kind of pointless for a short one. |

She is an Olivier Award Actress, if she is joining then it is a big coup for the show.

Good luck to Jenna and I'm sure she'll give it her all but I reckon I'll not be able to help but see her as a different character and not Michelle.
It's like when Kim Medcalf played Sam Mitchell. I just couldn't take her as Sam because to me Danniella IS Sam and always be. It's strange how some characters more than others are ingrained in your memory to the point you just can't accept anyone else in the role, especially with it being 21 years since Michelle last appeared, but that's just how it is!! ![]() I think it doesn't help though that I'm one of those fans who still looks back on the 90's era and wishes it was still like that now . To this day it STILL bugs me that they killed off Tiffany and Cindy![]() !!

A good Actress can carry it off and the character of Michelle is rooted in the show's history.

Jenna might hate everyone and everything at EE and may leave when her contract runs out. Or she may stay for fifty years. We've got no way of knowing Vas.

Michelle is a character very much rooted in the history of the show. She's an original character. Not only is her brother in Walford, but his family's there too including her niece. Sharon's there, who's her best friend, and she's got a history with Phil also. Ian's also her family, as is Kathy and she also knows Dot - so why is she irrelevant? As it usual on this forum (and I'm not just getting at you, as I've quoted you) but one, it hasn't been confirmed yet, and two, we don't know why she's back and for what story. I'm excited about seeing her again. Why can't we watch and see what happens? |

It's a bold move but a huge risk on SOC part. |

She is certainly a coup for the show.
The thing about Michelle Fowler is, it's been a long time since we've seen her so the possibilities for her are many, First question and it's a big one: Why now? Not when the death of your mother, father and brother could get you back to Walford, Sharon's many dramas, the return of Den which her daughter Vicki was central to, what brings her back to Walford now? I'm intrigued! |

Thank heavens for that. His casting of Gavin and to a lesser extent nuJohnny was a disaster. I dread to think who he would have cast as Michelle.
New Johnny is just very weak. |

She'd heard that Walford is now renowned for it's exciting recycling opportunities.
