Reading Challenge 2017 (217 in 2017)
I'm having the same target as 2016 i.e. 60 books - one per week and a few extra on holiday.

This year was the first time I've ever tracked how much I read. I was surprised at how many I got to. I think I'll say 175 for 2017. I don't think I'll get to 217 unless I can squeeze more holidays in 😀

After I managed to surprise myself this year with how many I managed I think I'll aim for 100.
I don't think I'll do as well as I did this year so that seems reasonable. |

Off to a good start
1) Black Rabbit Hall - Eve Chase 10/10 - loved this story with dual threads of Lorna who finds Black Rabbit Hall whilst looking for a wedding venue and the Alton family who resided there in the 1960s. It was recommended to me by a few people and I would also recommend it! 2) Very British Problems - Rob Temple 7/10 - amusing book about the awkwardness of being British. As a side, we bought the game and played it over Christmas - if board games are your thing it is very entertaining. |

I failed miserably to reach my 2016 target but in my defence I did have to contend with a house move and ongoing renovations.
This year I'm aiming for a sedate 40. Happy New Year everyone! ![]() ![]() ![]()

1. Enid Blyton Five on Brexit Island by Bruno Vincent.
Not a terribly intellectual start to the year! |

As I didn't want anything too demanding over the new year weekend I started with the following fairly easy reads...
1/ Wolverine by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller Graphic novel. Covers the original story that inspired the Wolverine film set in Japan. Also adds a pointless short story featuring the Hulk as well. OK but very repetitive. 2/ The Mistletoe Murder and other stories by PD James Collection of four short stories - two of them featuring Dalglish. Enjoyable and suitably festive (two of the stories are Xmas themed) mysteries that had previously been published in various papers and magazines. As James wrote several of these I imagine we'll see more collections like this in future. 3/ Whographica by Simon Guerrier, Steve O'Brien & Ben Morris Collection of infographics detailing a huge amount of Dr Who data. Really liked this. The amount of work that has gone into it is impressive. I did spot a few mistakes which is a shame but I think they were more printing errors rather than factual inaccuracies. Well worth a look for Who fans |

The ending was a little predictable but the characters were really strong and likeable. |

1) Letting in Light by Emma Davies
This was a very enjoyable read. It follows a woman named Ellie, who has recently had a relationship break up and she moves to a new area, where she meets Will and Finn who are brothers. The brothers harbour something that happened in the past which we find out about as the story progresses. There are very sad moments in the story, but it is balanced out with some positivity too. The characters are very likeable and sympathetic and the brotherly relationship between Will and Finn feels very realistic. 8/10 |

I fell short of my target of 50 again last year and only made 45! I will try for 50 again this year.
1) The Stranger in my Home by Adele Parks I thought this was very slow and repetitive to start with, but it has a very good twist at the end. Just needed to stick with it! |
