To appease certain FMs who think I'm little more than a crabby old coot, I thought I'd start a thread to celebrate the current positives of Coronation Street.

Any story involving Phelan is very positive some of his quips to or about the other characters are hilarious.

Awaits the backlash.

C'mon then KK - your thread, let's hear your positive views.

I'm struggling a bit tbh. I love Mary but the writing of what could have been a great sl with the long lost son has let her down badly thus far. I like anything involving Todd and Eileen or most of the Barlows, so it could be worse.

For me, the sooner Andy, Steph and Phelan bugger off, the better.

I like the Barlows at the moment, and Todd and Billy are ok.

Phelan always seems to improve an episode too.

Errrrm, positives......

Sally and Tim, she's moved on from Kevin and they are the most geniune double act. However the writers like to self indulge and their antics can become navel gazing. I like Todd, but he could do without his needy boyfriend. And there have been signs of Gail returning to her best.

80% of the street is full of undeveloped, undercooked characters. With the right material, they could flourish, but that won't ever happen with hackneyed producers and scriptwriters.

Lucy Fallon. She is great as Bethany Platt.

The revival of the Barlows, bringing the family into a new era.

Decent characters such as Todd, Billy, Sally, Tim, Phelan, Leanne, Mary etc.

Great families like the Platts and the Barlows, the latter in particular have been refreshed and modernised. I think Adam and Daniel are really interesting and Peter's return has been well handled so far. With the Platts, Lucy Fallon is an excellent addition as Bethany and the rest of the family are great too.

It's the longest running soap that has a rich history, even if it does get ignored.

The end credits.

Great idea for a thread!

I love that we still have veterans like Ken, Rita, Sally, Kevin, Gail and Audrey who have been in the show for at least 30 years. A further chunk cast at least have been with us for at least 15 years - the likes of Leanne, David, Sophie, Norris, Dev, Tyrone, Eileen. We take them all for granted at times.

Revitalising the Barlows is great and there's loads of potential. Daniel is played by a great actor and the unit is stronger than ever. Not bad for the longest-running family on TV! Bethany Platt played by Lucy Fallon is brilliant and despite all they've been through, the larger Platt family is still here after 20 years+ with the same actors for Sarah and David alongside Gail and Audreh which is just great.

Phelan is a great villain and has been causing psychological trouble for a long time. A refreshing sort of baddie for the show, using psychological techniques to torment others. It's great to have this thread of villainy affecting lots of character groups as time goes on, as it links the community together.

No matter how bad it is, the show - seeing the cobbles and terrace, the Rovers, those familiar faces we've seen on our screens for 15+ years - is like putting on a warm pair of socks. The world would be a lesser place without Coronation Street in it.

Todd and Phelan are holding the mess together. We've had the Vinny rip off scene which caused trouble amongst the peasants. Probably the worse thing to hit the street since Minnie Caldwell lost her cat Bobby

It is very slightly on the up. But we have the self-congratulary pain-up-the-arses Nick/Peter/Leanne/Andy/Rob/Maria/Eva/Michelle load of shit to compensate.

It's gone off the boil slightly again over the past couple of weeks, but there are still plenty of positives for me:
- Roy and Cathy splitting up
- The revitalised Barlow clan- Peter and Daniel have been excellent returnees
- Lucy Fallon continuing to flourish as Bethany. She's now one of the better characters on the show
- Phelan's scheming and quips to Anna
- Seeing Norris's more compassionate, human side in Mary's storyline
- Yasmeen and Gail now emerging as strong, protective matriachs

Totally agree, really developing into a 'keeper', let's hope future storylines support her.
Some of her little quips to her mother are classics !

I like it that the older characters are still given a role. There are some good young actors as well - Craig, Dev's twins, Amy, Max and even little Liam.

I like Gail now.

I am ok with Phelen as long as he dies soon.

I am sad Andy is leaving just as he becomes a good character.

Mary has improved greatly.

Daniel is great.

Adam could be good as a Ross Barton-style character.

David is great.

Todd is great.

KornerKabin is being positive about Corrie.

Craig is 18. I dont think you can compare him to little kids.

Craig is 18 !! I thought he was about 15. He is at a difficult age in his career, neither a child actor or an adult one.

I like Yasmeen. I am interested to see where they take the character now she is on her own.

I like Norris too. Nosy, interfering busy-body. Fiercely loyal though. Especially to Rita and Mary.

I think it's good they're building up the Barlow's and I like Daniel as a mini Ken. He looks just like Ken back in the 60s!

There are a lot of long term characters who have been around for 20+ years and a few decent actors.

That's it. Can't think of anything else I'm afraid

Oh well merry christmas everyone let's hope things improve in 2017
