Front page of BBC News site. Sad day for Zara and her hubby, and as you say R.I.P for the baby

Terrible time for any couple, being at Christmas when it is meant to be a happy family time always makes such things that bit worse, if that is possible but you know what I mean .

We know she had to publicly announce her pregnancy and of course the loss had to be announced but lets hope now the press have announced it they leave them alone to grieve and get through what will be a very difficult time for them.

As sad as it is, people lose babies everyday, why is this the top story?

I haven't noticed it being the top story , and yes people do lose babies every day and whoever you are that is a heart breaking situation. But she is the granddaughter of the Queen so the press will report it, I am sure the couple would rather it was private so they could get on and grieve , but you can guarantee that as her pregnancy was reported and the loss of a child was not reported it would be tabloid fodder and rumour , so in her position there is no choice. As I said before now reported lets hope the press leave them alone.

Amen to that. She must have been a few months along for it to have been announced ad I hope they are allowed privacy to grieve

I was surprised to see the story at the top of the BBC's 'most read' list earlier too, as I wouldn't have thought it was relevant to most families. It's strangely relevant to ours in a way though, as my mum-in-law had been watching a documentary featuring Mike Tindall just before she suffered a brain aneurism so massive that medics didn't expect her to last the night. She eventually made a full recovery, but during the early weeks in the hospital thought that half the men were Mike Tindall and didn't recognise anyone else at all.

Consequently I was only joking in the pub last night that news of the Tindalls expecting another baby was practically like a family announcement. I do feel sad for them today.

If we waited for unique events the news wouldn't consist of very much.

Congratulations on being the first to post a comment along these lines. Maybe you should phone the BBC to complain about which news stories they lead with, I'm guessing you already have them on speed dial.

I agree and it's kind of the worst time of year for such a tragedy to happen since the concentration is on families and festivities.

Perhaps all the news outlets should shut up shop until you're ready eh.

And then have tabloids and twitter gossiping about "what really happened" and "why didn't they say" . And someone would have leaked it out then more rumour mongering about why they never said anything , and heaven forbid she had been seen looking sad there would have been more rumours.

The couple have lost a child, they have done what other couples do and told people except being the Queens granddaughter it is obviously more public than they would like, now they can be left alone to grieve .

I am sure they are sorry to have upset anyone's Christmas by being mentioned on the news , but I know one thing you can guarantee , they would give anything for it to be different.
