None of them would have got to no. 1... nobody cares about this show or the winners anymore.
Matt is very talented and he deserves success on his next album, hope he does well with his own single. He won the show because he was the most popular. Get over it. |

Matt won because the producers wanted a male pop act and he suited it. Matt was one of many talented contestants, but no less deserving than the others. He was just the lucky one chosen to be promoted to "winning" . Why shouldn't he go for it? The way the show workd is outdated and pathetic, but Matt has talent, and good luck to him.
It is a reflection on the show , not on Matt, that the song didn't top the charts. |

I stated a fact that is all, though during the show I detected none of the "talent" you mention. A thin reedy voice with a less than impressive falsetto I think you'll find Have a fun Christmas |

They wanted a male act winning they got one but a very poor one.
I don't why they don't just accept it's only female acts that have any chance of success after the show and stop trying to make dud male acts happen. Louisa has had an ok 12 months since her win, does matt have any chance of matching that absolutely zero chance. In 12 months he will have joined the pile them high binned male acts from the show |

I don't think any other act from this year's XF could do better on the chart than Matt.
With the way how charts now operate and the state of the music market, the chances of X Factor winner ever having a Christmas #1 again are next to zero. TPTB did try harder this year than last year and Matt's song charted considerably better than Louisa's, but he still had no chance at making it to #1. Yep, it's time to get over it. |

Weak song performed by charisma vacuum from a show people only watch to laugh at these days - amazing it did as well as it did tbh

Louisa has had an ok 12 months since her win, does matt have any chance of matching that absolutely zero chance. In 12 months he will have joined the pile them high binned male acts from the show But this year I settled on two male acts in the finals: Matt and 5AM. The one female act that I liked this year (Caitlyn) didn't make it to the live shows. None of the three girls Simon picked had any chance to win. Honey G was a terrible joke. Relley C and Saara were both fodder. Saara did make it to the final and nearly won, but she never did much for me singing and performing wise. Matt became my favorite early in the live shows, because he could sing reasonably well, had some charisma, seemed media trained and also looked good. 5AM were at least entertaining, even though they had big support from the backing track. It's just how it is. I think the voters picked the best option that they had this year. |

Wouldn't be surprised if the ability to vote 5 times for free (10 times at the final) will be reduced or scrapped next year.

Well it wasn't released so it's debut chart week was Christmas so for it to still be #8 is good for X Factor standards nowadays, it's second week was still higher than Louisa's peak.

Its hiding how few people are voting. I doubt it will go away.
So i agree it's here to stay, my personal opinion is that the app vote is helping to ruin the show as well as ensuring no winner is successful following XF |

OP omits the fact he was number 3 the week before, in order to keep up their weird hate agenda against X Factor.

Yes but this is penned by Ed Sheeran, A Christmas song and for charity given those three factors the singles performance is dire as expected
Matt's song was released on a Sunday night after he won and it went to #1 on iTunes and stayed there for the rest of the week. Since now the chart week runs from Friday to Thursday, he missed out on three days of sales and streams. Louisa had this same handicap. Matt is the first X Factor winner not to have the winner's single released physically. The iTunes downloads are in decline. They've been in decline for years now. The most downloaded song of the week now sells between 30 and 40K. The download market is that weak now. Still, the fact that Matt's song stayed in the TOP 5 on iTunes and didn't just drop down the charts says that it's not doing that bad. The reason for that is the rise of streaming. Most people have already switched to streaming. Usually new songs need some time to really get going on streaming charts. And they have to be put on the big playlists or people wouldn't even know that those songs exist. That's why other charity singles never stood a chance - Spotify didn't put them on the big playlists. SYCO made the effort to secure some Spotify support for the winner's single, so he is actually getting streamed. Not as much as the regular hit songs, but still a decent amount. It's time to forget about those massive physical and digital sales that winner's singles in the past got. The times have changed. BTW, I expect Matt's song to die the instant death like all other Christmas songs after Christmas, so I hope nobody starts panicking. |

The X Factor's winner's single has been a charity release for years now. Considering all other charity releases flopped majorly this year, I don't see how that makes Matt's chart performance bad.

19 million people watched Matt Cardle win in 2010. He got 439,000 sales with pretty much a whole week of sales and both physical and digital copies. Times have changed and The X Factor viewers aren't necessarily going to always buy the music. Maybe they didn't buy into the song but there's nothing that can be done about that. |
