Not a great surprise in view of his recent health problems but still sad.

RIP Rick. I always had a soft spot for you - it was the permanent twinkle in your eyes that did it xx

Oh what awful news. 2016 still isn't over yet, and still continues with it's onslaught of misery

RIP Rick. Keep on rockin' wherever you are.

Spooky. I was actually listening to Rockin' all Over the World when I saw this thread. Total coincidence. Knew he was ill but it still comes as a shock.

RIP Rick. 2016 is rotten.

Sad news indeed, especially today.

Also sad that he kind of fell out of love with Status Quo with the way they were going musically by only wanting to perform and record acoustic songs and so decided he'd quit as he was an old rocker at heart.

There will be another bright star shining tonight and it'll be Rockin' All Over The World.

Is Les Battersby leading the tributes?

Seriously what a year for celebrities signing off. Shame at any time of year but worse at Christmas.

Vey sad news.

Saw them on their first farewell tour (as my friend dubbed it), in 1984. Wasn't really bothered about going at the time as they weren't a huge favourite of mine, but said friend had a spare ticket and exam finals had just ended.

They were fantastic.

Rock In Peace.

This really saddens me as a lifelong Quo fan. I've seen them play many times and they always put on a great show.

Francis & the other band members must be devastated. Not to mention the family.

RIP Rick.
Thanks for the music.

I'm not going to pretend I liked his music but Rick was one of those good old school British rock and roll characters that they don't make any more.

2016 has been an absolute bastard in terms of high profile deaths. 2017 can't come soon enough

RIP Rick - the NYE party up there is going to absolutely rock this year

Do You Know It's Christmas is on the radio, just as I found out. One of my earliest memories is of watching Rick and Francis being joyously idiotic during the recording of that song. Their music was never fashionable, but everyone loved it! RIP Rick.

He and Francis always seemed to remain relatively normal despite the years of fame and excess, they still came across as down to earth blokes.

RIP

RIP Rick, another rock legend gone too soon. Always liked Status Quo but especially their songs from my teenage years. 'Down the Dustpipe' remains one of my all time favourites. So sorry for his family and friends. Losing someone is hard at any time but at Christmas IMO it's especially difficult.

First musician from that record to die. Amazing, when you consider it was over 30 years ago and the lifestyle most rock stars live.
