Sad news, but not entirely unexpected I think.

Oh no, loved the Quo back in the day. I know he's been ill but it's still sad for his family especially at this time of year.

I really am sorry (and actually rather shocked) to hear that. I've always enjoyed their music. I must have listened to the whole of the 12 Gold Bars compilation hundreds of times over the decades.

As you say, not that unexpected given his health issues but on Christmas Eve! Always came across as a really nice man.

As I get older I expect to see stars and well known people die but 2016 seems to have been rather cruel taking so many and quite a number not really that old or expected.

Crikey i knew he wasn't well but never expected this. Christmas Eve too. 2016 seems to have been a bad year for the famous as we've lost many.

I saw on the news where Carrie Fisher is in intensive care at a hospital in LA after suffering a heart attack during a flight. She's only 60 too.

I was only saying the other day that he'd done well to survive the curse of 2016 given his health issues. Wish I hadn't mentioned it now - I feel a bit like 2016 was listening and thinking 'Oh yeah? There's still time!'. RIP, Rick.

There's no reason to suppose that there will be any fewer in 2017 and subsequent years. The year is not to blame. It is just that there is now a huge pool of public figures, many of whom have been around for decades and are now reaching the age when they die, just like the rest of us.
