Bet you're still having all your presents and Xmas Dinner tomorrow though, aren't you?...Slightly hypocritical, to say the least!
Just because that I don't believe that Mary was a virgin etc etc, it doesn't mean that I should join in & get forced to believe all the biblical crap surrounding Xmas. Also at Easter I eat Easter Eggs, but I have never & will never take part in the BS known as Lent or anything else religion orientated. Happy Xmas.

Britain is meant to be a Christian country. This year Christmas day is on a Sunday, so the networks should be showing more religious content, be more laidback. less films and soaps.
Shows like Songs Of Praise, vintage Songs Of Praise, re runs of the Queens Speech throughout the years, they could do a Christmas special of Highway. Sadly sir Harry Secombe is no longer with us, but maybe someone like Ian Smith could have stepped in. He has proven his singing voice here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcSk0YNw_f8 A couple of Christian movies, and some televised church services. a made for TV movie about the story of our lord and saviour Jesus Christ, and how he was born in a stable in Bethlehem. There could be hymns from around 3.30 - 6pm and fireplace scenes during the time families should be eating their Christmas dinner. Obviously some people follow a different faith, so Channel 4 could show some content for them. Happy festival type shows and films. There is no need for most of the TV channels to be broadcasting at all. I'd have BBC One, ITV and Channel 4. The others would display nice fireplace scenes and merry Christmas messages. I feel like the networks are chasing viewing figures and profits, which is fine most of the year - such is life in a capitalist society. But on Christmas day its really not acceptable. Infact I wouldn't have adverts on ITV or Channel 4 on this day either. I wonder if the forum feels the same. Should things be more laidback on Christmas day? I'm sure we are all agreed there should be no violence or sex. How much more of this s*** do we have to put up with, never mind trying to dictate to us what we can watch, when we can watch it and more. |

At today's service in Bristol, the minister was happy at the turn out and asked if they could do it again next week. I was hoping he was going in to a Rowan Atkinson style rant as on Not The Nine O'Clock News.

Christmas is in reality a pagan festival hijacked by Christianity, as is Easter, but that does not stop Christians complaining about the last of Christ in Christmas.

Funny how you now claim to being sarcastic AFTER that post was removed by moderators...
Whether you were trying out some sledgehammer satire or not, that kind of thing doesn't always translate as intended in text. Back to the thread - I'm more disappointed that Yesterday seem to be showing wall to wall Top of the Pops specials all day. Though I suppose it's more suitable and light than a day of The World at War. I half expected Yesterday to essentially turn in to Gold all day. |

Even Pop Francis has said Christmas has been taken hostage by materialism. Guess he's not interested in the Christmas special of Mrs Brown's Boys then?

I notice that STV are not bothering to do a service from Scotland, taking the network service from Rochdale.
Broadcasting a CofE service from south of the border means both sides of bigots up here can unite in their hatred of all things English and STV can sit smugly back without being accused of taking one side or the other. |

Simple reason for that, if STV showed a Scottish service one half of the country or the other would be up in arms depending on if it was broadcast from a Catholic or Church of Scotland church.

Good. Less religious mumbo-jumbo on the telly the better. Go to church if you want to get that sort of stuff.

Er, last time I looked Christianity was still the official religion and the monarch was still head of the church. Ergo, we ARE a Christian country. That is all.
The UK is therefore a secular country in which only a single region, England, has a state religion. |

I don't know why anybody gives this troll the time of day to be honest, how many ridiculous threads must they start before they are banned? The user never even bothers returning to the thread.
