I'm all for appreciating different types and styles of music, but I think 2pac as great as an artist he was doesn't belong in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame? There can be overlap between certain genres of music but Hip Hop/Rap and Rock are polar opposites and his Rap hardly incorporated much if any elements of the latter. What were they thinking?

The R&R HOF is not a "rock" museum. If anything, they can often favour pop acts over rock acts. They inducted Donna Summer a few years ago and she didn't have much to do with rock. Madonna's in there too and I don't know many "rock" fans who consider her "rock". Same with ABBA.

They haven't inducted a whole load of famous rock bands who sold multi-millions of records, including Yes, Moody Blues, ELP etc. It took them a hell of a long time to induct Deep Purple FFS!

I think people - certainly rock fans - stopped taking the R&R HOF seriously quite a long time ago.

I think that Tupac along with the other example mentioned in Madonna are reflective of the fact that contemporary music has blurred into different genres. Therefore, it is lek ly that artists will be inducted on their 'iconic' status and their contribution to music as a whole.

Bands in the hall of fame include: The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, CCR, The Doors, The Animals, Grateful Dead, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Aerosmith, Queen, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Ramones, AC/DC, The Clash...

I could go on.

I think it did focus on 50s Rock and Roll when it began but now (in theory anyway) covers all popular music.

What a ridiculous concept is the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Surely no self respecting rocker would want to be part of such a tacky confection.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is frankly nonsense and only recently have people started to wake up and realise not to pay them any sort of shred of "credit" when KISS (Paul Stanley in particular) revealed them to be utter up-their-own-ass businessmen.

They don't actually put in STRICTLY rock royalty, they'll throw rock royalty in but then also throw just any old big name star in for some kind of publicity so they can make money from merchandising and toursit visits. Madonna is in there as previously said, Run DMC is in there (though that's a *little* bit more credible with some of the rockier songs they have plus Aerosmith's Walk This Way team up), Michael Jackson is in there, there's a lot of inductees that I personally just do not see as "Rock".

Before you know it I guarantee you that Kanye West/Beyoncé/Lady Gaga will end up in there, because they just don't care about the artists actual rock fans want to see get in, that's why it took both Deep Purple and Rush upwards of 20 years to be inducted.

Also you know who still hasn't been inducted to this day? Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Both absolutely huge, huge, huuuuuuge bands and influential on so many big bands today, especially in Maiden's case. So where are they in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Nowhere. Sad really.

Most reasonably successful Rock artist will make it into the hall at some point, basically what names are pulled out of the hat each year

That's just your opinion though. Objectively speaking Motorhead, Maiden and Priest are not only 3 of the biggest and best known rock and metal bands around, managing to actually expand their sound across multiple genres, but they're also 3 of the most influential rock artists from the 70s and 80s.

I mean just look at when Lemmy died, it was like the entire rock industry had just taken a bullet with the amount of upset and anger, and that's because so many bands were inspired by him and Motorhead whether it was through their music or their attitude.

Whether you think they're overrated or not is irrelevant, those 3 bands certainly deserve to be in there, the fact that they're not is a total joke.

Exactly. Regardless of whether or not you think they deserve to be there for musical merit they are highly influential to a lot of bands and deserve to go in for the amount of influence they have shown to bands from the 70s/80s till the present day. It's utterly bonkers that Metallica are already in but Motörhead maiden and priest aren't when those 3 bands heavily influenced Metallicas sound.

Not that I've ever been that interested of impressed by a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, it would probably make more sense as a Popular Music Hall of Fame. Many of the bands cited for not being in (or in yet) are pretty far removed from what is actually Rock & Roll anyway: a genre that hardly anyone plays now.

Damn right, he hasn't done anything of note in the past twenty years!

[Yes should] have been put in years ago. It's too late for Chris squire 😢
By that measure, it's a bit too late for Tupac as well.
