RIP to him. Status Quo were great. No pretensions about them.
He is, to my knowledge, the first musician from the original Band Aid record to die, which is frankly amazing. |

He'd really not been very well ever since his quadruple heart bypass in 1997, so no real surprise, but very sad news all the same.
Pictures of Matchstick Men and You're in the Army Now will always be my favourite Quo numbers. RIP Rick .. keep on rocking up there! |

Status Quo first official single "Pictures Of Matchstick Men" early 1968 (Number 7 UK chart)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQyB5buEV5s Ironically, their last single to chart in the UK was a Christmas song in 2008 "Its Christmas Time" (Number 40 UK chart) and their last single before that to chart was 2007's "Beginning Of The End" (I guess it was )https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK0Hchdf7u8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvmlLh1Kovc However, they had a couple of re - realises, live performances and one offs that didn't chart, taking us right up to November this year! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Status_Quo_discography |

RIP Rick, what a shame
Pictures of matchstick men is such a brilliant psychadelic record - I reckon it to be on par with Tomorrow Never Knows. The Mono version of Matchstick Men is incredible. Massively heavy production for a 60's track, sounds brilliant |

RIP Rick........ thanks for the riffs |

Not a send-up, more a tribute -
Alberto Y lost trios Paranoias : Heads Down No Nonsense Mindless Boogie quote : If you wanna see my 'ackles rise Play a disco song Give me a 12 bar blues That really moves And I can boogie all night long The Albertos were a comedy '70s band. Everyone got 'the treatment' - Pistols, Clash etc Parfitt was a top dude. Opening Live Aid in '85 is one of those 'I remember where I was when it happened' things. |

R.I.P. Rick
![]() You have to admire Status Quo for not following the musical sheep throughout the decades, and right up until their most recent album they always stayed true to their roots. Rockin' All Over The World will always be a timeless classic. |

One of the greatest live albums of all time is their Live from Glasgow Apollo from 1976, I have played that one at full blast many times!
Best Quo songs for me: the full length 4500 Times [ a MONSTER! ], Back Water / Just Take Me, Don't Waste My Time, Caroline. Really did NOT like In The Army Now though, one of their most irritating songs, outside of their more novelty singles. Had some amazing nights at Quo gigs, such a shame but what a legacy he has left for us all. |
