I'm probably in the majority when I say from what I've seen, the first two films are the strongest. Are there any specific moments from the five films (yes, there was a new one in 2012) that you particularly like?

Home Alone 1 - Incredible
Home Alone 2 - Outstanding
Home Alone 3 - Crap
Home Alone 4 - Crap
Home Alone 5 - Crap

My favourite was the second film and not a Christmas goes by where I don't watch it. I especially enjoy the scenes with the pigeon lady.

Home Alone 1 & 2 are modern Christmas greats. It just wouldn't be christmas without a Home Alone film!

The second instalment is probably my favourite. It took everything that made the first film great, made it much more grander and took it to New York. Tim Curry as the hotel concierge was excellent! and of course the Pigeon lady. The traps were better too. The sequel to the paint tins was hysterical

Home Alone 3 was also very good, but in a different way. I liked the storyline and that the kid was up against four criminals instead of two. The traps were heaps of fun to watch, especially as a child Loved the whole remote control car thing, the parrot and Mrs Hess next door.

Also look out for a young Scarlett Johansson.

Originally they were going to make a Home Alone 3 with the original cast and Kevin as a teenager, but then Macauly Culkin retired from acting. Would've been very interesting to see how that turned out.

But despite that i still have a great nostalgia for the third instalment aswell, having watched it many times in my childhood.

I've also had the misfortune of seeing number 4. Waste of direct to DVD space. Never liked the fact new actors were portraying characters from the first two films. And the iconic scream poorly recreated in CGI on the brown haired Kevin's face on the DVD cover still haunts me..

Not seen the latest one, but i hear it has Malcolm McDowell in it.

I voted for the original as my favourite, but it's really a close call between that one and the first sequel. The rest are easily forgettable though.

I'd be happy to see another reunion type film with the original cast but I'm not sure it'd be the best idea.

I like the first two films but wasn't so keen on any of the others!

Not the same without Macaulay!

I can only comment on the first two Home Alone films, as I haven't seen the others. I think Home Alone 1 and 2 are comedy classics and I watch them every year at Christmas. I remember first seeing them at the cinema in the early 1990s when I was a teenager and I have loved them ever since. I wasn't aware that a new sequel had been made in 2012, though, but I have no desire or intention of tracking it down. The first two films will always be comedy gold in my opinion and I think they are two of the very best Christmas films ever made.

For me it's 2 then 1. Mostly because as mentioned above they just take the story a go 'big' with it in New York.

I did have the misfortune of watching 4 while ill once and it was shockingly bad. Unfortunately the Sky remote was by the TV (!) and moving wasn't an option.

Also is it just me or does anybody else think the McAlisters are a horrible family?

Even after the initial set up when we see them in Paris and again at the end they are just horrible people.

Home Alone 1 edges it over Home Alone 2, however Marv's best scream is the pigeon scream

There are no more after number 2 what is going on here? no Daniel Stern Pesci and Macaulay Culkin is why it failed, they are Home Alone.

I forgot about the pigeon scream! Me and my cousin were pissing ourselves laughing at the spider scream last night

I tend to agree. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are what the made the films so great. And that wonderful John Williams music.

The original is just a classic family christmas film. It's a timeless example of taking the seasonal spirit and creating a fun adventure out of it.

The second is basically just a point for point remake - but the change of setting and few additional elements do work (mostly). I only real complaint i'd make is that the booby traps on the robbers go from comical in the first film to sadistic in this one. Throwing a brick at someone's head isn't funny.

Yep, the original is very decent Christmas fare but HA2 does rather go through the motions a bit, despite still having a few smart scenes. I've seen the first one countless times, but have never once felt the urge to rewatch HA2 when it's on TV. Just doesn't really have the same magic about it.

The rest are pish obviously.

Can't beat a Home Alone film during the Christmas period!

I think Home Alone 2 edges it for me; I just prefer the New York/hotel setting.

I do agree with the poster above regarding the traps. Although they are obviously portrayed as slapstick they still seem a bit more sadistic.

Home Alone 1 and 2.

I also enjoyed the third one too even if it didn't have Kevin in it and I think it's definitely underrated as somebody above said.

I dont remember the second one very well but I always thought the traps in the first one were ocassionally "sadistic" or at least rather violent in a cartoonish way (Joe Pesci getting his head burnt with a blow torch, the hot door knob, the nail shoved through his foot etc)

1 and 2 are the best, 3 never seen in full, 4 is the worst.

5 I liked a lot better then 3 and 4 put together.

No wear near as good as the 1st 2

Same about Oringal idea Home Alone 3.with previous cast.

Has to be the first because we were living in Wilmette a few years ago and this was our local Church

Got married there too, but the interior shots were from a different Church

It was a good little film in its own right. It would certainly be more acclaimed had it been the first entry in the series, rather than the third. Unfortunately whether the quality of the film is good or not, it's destined to be labelled as just a cash in. Especially with none of the original cast taking part.

HA1 for me.
HA2 has Donald Trump in it so is forever tainted just because orange head appears.
Rest of them are instantly forgotten
