Yep, lots of nonsense has been spoken this year. Trump, I can understand because he isn't your typical US Presidential candidate, and you can reasonably argue he isn't fit to be US President (although people could say the same about the faux-veneer of Clinton).
Brexit, well some people think thats a bad thing because they can't open their eyes to the reality of the EU project, and for some completely unknown reason, think the EU is something to be proud of. Our transition out of the EU will be a bumpy ride over the next 5-10 years, but once the UK is a real, independent country again (like most other countries in the world), it'll succeed or fail on its own merits - as it should. Meanwhile, the EU (if it survives) will lumber on with its 1930s thinking and building its uncompetitive policies on compromise, and condemning generations of southern Europeans (and ultimately, the rest of the union) to a lifetime of zero growth and/or poverty - really, is the EU's treatment of their new debt colony Greece of no concern to you?
I mean, Russia is resurgent, Europe is enfeebled and drowning in debt. The US is declining and drowning in debt, we've had numerous failed wars in the middle east over the last decade, lurching from financial crisis to financial crisis, thousands of people are dying in the Med every year, terrorism is rife (and growing) throughout the west, Africa and the Middle East - and this is the utopia that 2016 is 'stealing from us'?? Give me a break! With any luck, 2016 will have marked the turning point, where sanity and real leadership starts making a comeback to western policy making.
