I really can't imagine they'd do a shock death at Christmas, if anything they'd promote it for viewers. People won't go out of their way to watch if they don't know it's happening. Also I just think Dot will be in the shw until June dies, I can't see her leaving unless her health irl gets a lot worse.

BIB I disagree Sean O'Connor has gone out of his way to keep big secrets, the fact the Michelle recast came out so late in the day it obviously wasn't meant. I think they are almost trying to take us to a time of pre-spoilers in order to surprise viewers and get the maximum possible number to tune in on a regular basis, they've tried everything else, and due to the media led age have failed. They now want genuine surprises and twists, not just little twists because the rest of the story has been advertised/and/or leaked.

Absolutely 100% agreed. I just love what SOC is doing with the show. DTC was good for the first year or so but the constant "shock" storylines, forcing characters into situations that went against their history, stupid ret cons etc., SOC is a breath of fresh air.

I love that you could tell it was a new era literally from his first episode and that he is brave enough to cut out the sensationalist nonsense from day one. Focusing on the characters has been a joy to watch.

My only complaint with last night's episode is that the Michelle recast leaked. Would have been wonderful to not know it was going to happen. I've been watching EE since day one. Michelle has always been my favourite character. It was obvious Sue Tully was never going to return and a recast is a very brave move. However, given what SOC has done so far I am confident it's going to work out perfectly.

As for the rest of last night's episode - wow! Best I've seen in years, perfect in every way. One of my favourite bits was Stacey and Martin having a giggle about his costume for the play. Simple things like Martin and Stacey having Ian and Jane over for a drink are wonderful to see. The scene the night before with Dot and Philth was genius and last night's scene with Phil and Denise was excellent. I also love the return of Derek and his friendship with Patrick. Random return but it works. Looks to me like Dot is about to die. It'll be sad to see her go if she does but it has been played out beautifully.

I can say no more - just perfect!!

It was a fab episode. Although the launderette closing wasn't a major storyline it was actually a major moment. Can't believe we won't be seeing Dot in there again. I just wish Michelle's return hadn't leaked because I'd have loved to have seen the meltdown on here after, because I've got to say the reaction on here after Kathy's return is one of my favourite things ever
