Rick Parfitt - first Band Aid singer to pass away ?
As David Bowie did not actually sing on "Do they know it's Christmas"
I am sure Rick Parfitt is the first member of Band Aid to leave us. Paula Yates was in the video but was not a credited singer. What is remarkable is the longevity of the Band Aid members, compared to some singers on the other charity singles, many of whom have left us much sooner. (USA for Africa, Perfect Day etc) |

I know Queen stole the show but it did surprise me how his appearance was mostly glossed over considering he was (I think) the first Wembley headliner since Mercury to die. But then there was a tendency to gloss over most of Bowie's '80s phase in general so maybe that was why. |

It was not just "legends" who have passed though.
Stephen Gately sang on Perfect Day with Boyzone - I also got Huey Morgan mixed up with Michael Hutchence - but it was Morgan not Hutchence on Perfect Day. Tammy Wynette was only 55 when she passed away - no age really. I just think it is an oddity with all the drugs and fast cars (especially in the '80's) that nobody from Band Aid has died up to now. |

Spooky co-incidence though.

David Bowie did the speech bit on the 12" version @ 4:15, you'll find it on YouTube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2vuPUWV77U He did do "Perfect Day" but was pre-deceased by Tammy Wynette and Stephen Gately and Lou Reed. |

David did do the Vocal live at Live Aid. As he was supposed to be the opening singer, but could not make the recording. So Paul Young deputised
Interestingly enough Rick Parfitt was there but his voice is not on the single. By the time they came to record their bit "Heres To You" part. Rick was to pissed to sing. So Francis Rossi had to sing both their bits. Typical Rick
