Aled Jones did sing it for real on a single released. The reason Peter Auty was not credited on the original film was a cock up due to the rush to get it out though he did release a single in his name after the film in 1983 , his name was credited on the film when it was remastered in 2002 and he also sang the lyrics for the BR ad This is the age of the train

Aled released his version in 1985 and that was popular . Peter Auty is famous in the opera world Aled went the more commercial route that's all.

I think, reading between the hiccups , you mean that Peter Auty should get the credit for singing the song, as it's his voice on the film and Aled Jones only sang it for a Toys'R'Us ad.

Yes, you're right, he should get more credit.

Also if you hear his voice on the film it sounds better than the Aled Jones version

Aled Jones was asked to sing by the man who wrote it Howard Blake as Peter Autys voice had broken by then , Aled reached No 5 where as the original release didn't chart. Peter Auty has said he was never bothered by it but was pleased they did credit him when they remastered the film.

Which one? The famous Toys R Us advert is sung by (one time DS member) Lynda Hayes (she sung the Irn Bru advert too)

See you've been watching same show as me He did say he didn't mind Aled taking over his song, which I thought was very generous of him. I have that movie, and the story is really lovely, great for kids and adults alike

Auty rolls the R's in his version.

Glad Mr Auty made a good living, as he deserved it for that Snowman

At least Peter Auty went on to have a bona fide career in opera, unlike Aled Jones who know has an appalling, weak voice, and makes a living from making old grannies so moist they spend their pensions on his CDs.

According to this article in the Mirror, even Aled himself thinks he recorded the song for the film!

I suspect it's actually the Peter Auty version which gets played most but people assume it's Aled Jones.

I doubt it. The Peter Auty version will get played the most on TV, since it's part of the movie, but I expect when they play it on the radio they use Aled's single, and the single is probably played more often on the radio than the film is shown on TV.
