If she has just been an effective host for the last 60 plus years then she has frankly been very well paid for that job in monetary terms and for some 40 of those years she negotiated tax exemption for herself. During years in which I and most of her subjects paid tax willingly and at a high level. So I do not accept the self-sacrifice argument. Sorry I just see an ordinary person who has done a very well paid job; which she inherited; looked out for herself: and has lived a long time. |

I can understand some people don't want Royalty but when push comes to shove I would rather someone who has been trained for many years to do the job of head of state than have a president Blair/Johnson/Milliband/Corbyn or any of the other politicians.
The Queen, while I might not agree with the wealth, yet there are many who have much more wealth and influence in some cases, has been a huge asset to this country, she's an incredible ambassador who does her homework when meeting other representatives and heads of state. |
