Frankie's dance was good, but ended up more about Gorka, again, than Frankie!

The fact that Len gave every couple a 10 it was left to the other three to rank the celebs fairly. I thought Melvin & Janette were worthy winners.
I LOVED Gorkas little solo

Frankie was the best but i did enjoy Melvin and makes me wonder if he wasn't booted out first in 'normal' Strictly, how far he could have gone!

Gorka has gone a bit heavy with the eyeliner.
I loved the eyeliner thought he was looking a right corker!

The audience enjoyed Melvin more ... part of that was probably sympathy and part was probably due to his personality ... cos he's just so amiable but it was a fun routine and he danced it well.
Okay if the audience enjoyed it, butthe judges gave him 40 and he could not dance well and half of the steps he actually missed waitng for the upcoming lift.

Complete joke and fix for him keeping quiet about the dance off drama.

I remember when the Christmas show used to mean something. Now it's just a bit of fun and fluff. Shame really.
Fun and fluff at Christmas? OH THE HUMANITY!

Tbf since the judges scores never count in the Christmas special it doesn't mean anything at all. It's purely a popularity contest.

It seemed odd having on the Christmas Special as most people have no idea who he is apart from having seen him briefly on the main programme.

I still don't know what he is supposed to do apart from dance badly.

Stars? Are they kidding? What has the BBC done with our Licence Fee money? This is a collection of has-beens, most of whom couldn't dance in the first place.

Very disappointing.
Oh dearie me, sorry they weren't all Darcy Bussel clones, but the standard of dances infinitely higher than back in the dear Brucie days. If you bring back former winners (it's nothing at all to do with celeb status, you should know that by now) it means they still have some dance muscle memory and it makes for a more watchable show.

They worry far too much about themeing these day.

Is it really necessary to have Neil about pretending to be a child?
Was he pretending?!

Happy boxing day

Melvin looked happy bless
Denise looked stunning
Pamela got stitched up there: she should have been Elsa
and Pash should have been Olaf
Frankie would have been a better Martine than ronsealed Elsa. And poor Darcy. Her eyeroll in the intro cracked me up.

So the person voted off first gets a perfect 40.
Yes, it's the Christmas show - the judging is ALWAYS batty and hard to believe.

Blatantly obvious who was going to win... A BBC case of redressing the balance... Or so the cynics say!
DAvid obviously only watching the radio version of this show. It's the studio audience that decides the winner, and with only about 5 points separating top from bottom of the leaderboard, with two couples tying top, it was the studio vote that really decided it; I think they all voted for Melvin's yellow trousers and Jeanette's imp costume. And it was a well choreographed routine, AND Melvin's timing was dead accurate, and he performed out of his skin. So unworthy ... not.

Why so many people drinking vinegar instead of champers or glühwein this Christmas?

BIB: This is incorrect. At the start of the Christmas Special programme (about 9 mins in) Claudia said:

"Now for this show the phone lines won't be open, instead our studio audience will vote for their favourite. Their votes will be combined with the judges' scores to decide who will be our Strictly Christmas Champions 2016".

Therefore, the judges votes do count.

As soon as it was announced on ITT that Melvin and Janette would be appearing. I knew that they'd be 'winning' it. I think it was to compensate Melvin (and Janette) for what happened on the main show and to thank them for not kicking up a fuss.

I think it made the outcome of the Xmas Special extremely predictable and it spoiled it somewhat, for me. I much preferred last year's Christmas special.

I think the people behind Strictly should have thought a bit more about what to do in specific situations (like someone not being able to perform in the dance-off, for example) and they should have let the viewers know at the start of the first main show what the main rules were (the rules should also have been on the Strictly website). Instead, I think they were caught with their pants down.

... It did seem very engineered toward a Marvin win, which I presume is due to the circumstances under which he was eliminated on the main show ...

So yet another conspiracy theory without an adequate motive. (How did they supposedly "fix" it BTW? Falsify the audience vote?)

And why should they "think a bit more about it?" They had a rule for that situation; they applied it. Suggesting "they were caught with their pants down" and saying they "should have let the viewers know at the start of the first main show", etc, makes it sound like they invented a rule with the aim of getting Melvin out, and have to be stopped from ever doing that again.

Well. First of all, they don't usually invite couples on to the Christmas Special who also participated on the main show of the same year. Also, when they do invite a celeb back, they aren't usually dancing with the same pro partner they had on the main show (even if the pro dancer is available).

I said at the time when watching the announcement on ITT of who was going to appear, that I would put my house on Melvin and Janette winning it. I had absolutely no doubt about it at all. Sometimes you can just read between the lines and can see that this is what the producers want.

What happened on the main show when Melvin and Janette were eliminated is going to be extremely fresh in the memories of the studio audience (the Xmas Special was actually filmed in November) and so I don't think that you have to be Einstein to work out that there will be some sympathy voting going on...

I think they should have thought more about what to do under certain circumstances because I got the impression that they really didn't know what to do when when the situation with Anastacia occurred. There were people on this forum who are part of the backstage crew on the show and they said at the time that the producers didn't know what to do. There was a massive delay while they worked it all out. Apparently, the studio audience were there on Saturday night until rather late due to what happened.

There was a massive backlash on this forum and on social media about this. I think if the rules were more clear (and available at the start of the series) then the backlash wouldn't have occurred. People would have been able to read the rules for themselves before the situation occurred.

The fact that the producers gave Melvin and Janette a reoccurring slot on ITT and a place on this year's Christmas Special indicates that they felt they had to compensate them for what happened. If they were simply applying the rules then I'm not sure there would have been a need to compensate them in such a way.

I'm sure the whole ice mountain was something that was foisted upon them. If we hadn't been watching Gorka's solo we probably would have been watching the 'elf and safety people helping her into the platform thing. There was a real reason for it so it is very different from Gio's solo in the samba.

The judges did count but with them all giving 10 or occasionally 9, it was obviously planned so the studio audience effectively chose the winner. If they had given more sensible scores then I am sure there would be a better chance of the best dance winning.

He will be remembered as the most undeserving winner.

It would be interesting to hear from someone who was at the recording, to see if they managed to "talk him up" in the introductions and indirectly encourage people to vote for him.

They could bring in a bias through selection of the audience.

It takes time if someone is wearing a harness but I think otherwise they just slip their hand into a loop but it still will take a a short time in which the professional always dances on their own, nothing new about it.

Perhaps a delay then annoyed the studio audience and put them off voting for her even though it was out of her control.

Yeah, I wondered as well if that could have cost them . It was easy for the cameras to focus on Gorka but if you were there you would also have been watching Frankie so it would have ruined the mood of the dance.

You could see her in the background, she was just running around to get into place, it most likely showed up more on tv as they focused so much on Gorka instead.

Also Melvin was helped by the support of this years intake of Class 2016 in the audience too, I'm sure they were given a vote each

Well me and the wife watched it, enjoyed it and take it for what it means, absolutely nothing compared to the main show, I mean even Melvin said he was going to put the trophy on the front door to keep the dogs away (probably) lol

But Melvin can't dance. He proved it by studiously avoiding dancing with Janette and lifting her into her trademark repertoire of gynaecological poses. Not that I am entirely complaining

For me, the Christmas show never really works, because the dances are wildly over-marked, and the winner seems randomly selected, and the whole event seems a bit flat and forced. And, as usual, the director is an idiot who seems to think it would be far too obvious and old-fashioned to actually show the steps on the screen.

Oh no! I'm prepared to go with the manipulation for O'BLUBBER to win the main event
but O'doom as well? Never a fix, just a bit of fun. Fact is the audience wanted Melvin to win...it was a F.U.N. routine that actually had some interesting choreography. Sure it was his 'reward' for going out first week...but I didn't mind that one bit.
Anyway gorka the porka was showing off!!
