The point is I didn't say that they never have couples on from the current series, your earlier comment seemed to suggest that I did. I said that they don't usually have couples on from the current series, which is correct. You have to go back seven years for the previous time that they did have couples on from the current main series, so I think it is correct to say that they don't usually invite current series couples on.

I don't understand your last point about Pamela, Gethin etc. I don't think anyone is saying that they'd be bothered by it, I think the point that some people have been making is that when you break trend like that it is kind of obvious what the producers want to happen. I think last year's Xmas Special was more fun and was better imo.

who won that btw? and who else was in it? My memory IS shot, sorry!

I remember one that was won by that comedian..rufus somebody.....he wasn't as good as melvin, but was funny.....sort of.

The vibe I got was that it was always Melvin and Janette who were going to win the show so they all just enjoyed it for what it was.

I'm sure I saw Will Young seated with the rest at the beginning but he then disappeared?
Also, does anyone know what had happened before the final to Tameka yet?
She's suddenly disappeared to sunnier climes on EE too.
'think I'm GONNA LEAVE RIGHT NOW'.....

Thought Melvin's and Janette's dance was a lot of fun - the Christmas show is just for fun, so all fine by me.

Didn't someone who went to the Christmas Show say their Charleston was popular with the audience? No wonder they voted for them.

Did anyone notice Greg and Ed rush out first to lift Melvin up when he'd won - but Melvin had moved over so Ed had to nip quickly across to get next to Greg

Harry Judd won last year's Christmas Special with Joanne Clifton. It featured Tom Chambers, Lisa Snowdon, Abbey Clancy, Cassidy Little and Alison Hammond.

Yes, you mean Rufus Hound. He won with (my all time favourite pro dancer) Flavia Cacace in 2013.

If the Christmas programme is "just for fun" then why not just have four of the 'comedy turns'. It seems that someone can do a really beautiful dance but not win because someone else is thought "a lot of fun".

It's a plastic star covered in shiny bits, not a Nobel Laureate, nor even an Oscar! Get some perspective!

So why are you against it going to the best dance?

Because 'best' dance is subjective - and because to be honest who really remembers who wins Christmas specials - they're mostly a dance for kicked out early pros (and for those who don't win serieses for whatever reason to have the chance of picking up some sort of trophy) and either celebs who can't quite commit to a fully season or ones who did well in previous one to come back and for everyone to have a good time. Seriously without looking it up can you remember who won most of the previous Crimbo specials or especially remember many of the dances they did. Lighten up

I'll go along with all of that - spread out the 'trophies'. And I thought Melvin deserved to win, loved their dance.
Didn't they used to have a winner of winners in the past? I remember Darren & Jill winning 2 trophies.

I think they have had only 1 'winner of winners' competition so far

Happy New Year!!! 👍🍸🍸

I just realised Aliona won 2014 X'mas show and 2015 main show.
Joanne won the 2015 X'mas show and 2016 main show.
Does that mean there is hope for this year's X'mas winner Janette??.

I think though it's not a given Kristina won with John Barrowman (see Monkseal's list) in 2010 and the next series she didn't convert that into a series win.

I also think that with two blokes in a row winning the producers will be pushing like crazy for a female celeb to win which doesn't bode well for any of the female pros.

Well none of them did really beautiful dances on the Christmas Special in my mind - Melvin was the best of a pretty mediocre set of dances!
