News prorities
So which bright spark at Classic FM / Global news thinks that the Queen not getting to church this morning is a more important story than 90+ dieing in a plane crash in Russia?
At least the beeb got their priorites right. |

The Royal Family going to church is an important part of the British Christmas ritual. Reminds us all of our place. The order of things is endangered if it doesn't happen.

{rightly or wrongly) I bet nearly every family made some reference to the Queen this morning and very few about the plane crash.

I didn't say the Queen not going to church should not be reported, I only question the importance of the story within the running order.
Must be just me. |

I think this would have been the IRN/Sky running order, not Classic FM/Global. "The Queen misses church" was the top story on the Sky News website this morning.
I just assumed it would have been Globals own News, I stand corrected. However it doesn't alter the sentement behind my question, particularly at this time of year. |

What time did news of the aircraft crash come through? I think it was in the early hours so they would have been giving the news for many hours by the time the news of the Queen not attending church came through and I don't think there was a lot of information about the crash until later in the day.
The running order of news items is not necessarily dependent on the importance, it can be dependent on the "freshness" of the news item. A new item will got to the top then an older more important item might come back up to the top later if nothing else new. I presume the latest news of the pop singer's death will be the lead item but should 90+ deaths still be considered more important? |

While the plane crash and the loss of 90+ lives is very sad and important, I think the reason for the Queen to be the lead story is due to concerns that she might not be at all well at the moment.
First the news that she was stepping down during the last week from her role at a number of charities and now not attending the Christmas Church Service at Sandringham, what with her being 90 and the Queen you can see why some consider it to be a big story. |

At least the beeb got their priorites right. Yep, news priority issues in the uk is a long term thorn in my side too. The sad news of Nick parfitt passing is sad, but on BBC the even broke into an article allready being read out.......I saw that happen live. Up came BREAKING NEWS........I was expecting a terror attack or something. BBC + and another's that keep going over the top, should consider that if they keep saturating the public with BREAKING NEWS, even when it could be just inserted as the next story - the public will begin to think that BREAKING NEWS is nothing to worry about. |

The Russian jet has to come before anything else. For a start, the loss of life. Then it's Russian military operating near the Med, close to a war zone - near NATO anti aircraft weapons and NATO jets.....this story had to be priority 1 just in case there was more to follow......I bet the uk PM and US president were immediately informed before it even hit the news.....even if they were asleep at the time.
That's just how it's done. |

That's just how it's done. I doubt whether they would have woken the PM and POTUS though their staff were probably informed. |

Do you really think that? I think most families didn't talk about either. We certainly didn't. Why do you think people would?
I imagine a lot of people will have mentioned her in some context, whether it was "Musn't forget to watch the Queen this afternoon" or "Oh God does that old bag still come on every year". |

I don't understand why UK media get so excited about plane crashes. You'll see or hear them in bulletins wherever they happen, whatever the cause. Unless there are British people on board or the cause is terrorism, why should we care?
The health of our head of state - the only monarch those of us under the age of sixty have known - is bigger news. |
